Chapter 5

Morris's POV

I felt a slight movement around me and opened my eyes. I had fallen asleep while sitting next to my mom's bed. She had woken up and was caressing my hair. I held her hand as our gaze met. She looked at me with the most loving eyes.

I sensed she had something to say, so I smiled back at her, urging her to continue. "When will I get to meet her? I mean your wife," she asked.

I had promised her the previous day that I would bring Amira to meet her, but I wanted my mom to get better first before introducing them.

"Mom," I choked on my words, trying not to cry. It was devastating to me that my mom just wanted to give up like that. Not even the thought of me could make her feel better.

"Mom," I said again, "once you get a bit better, I'll bring her right away."

She smiled gleefully and asked, "What is she like? Who is her mother?" I didn't want to tell her about Amira's origin. I just wanted her to know her as Amira. If she found out she was an Edwards, she would instantly kn
