Viral Food Review Cost Me Two Million

Looking at the smug look on Brandon's face—like he already had me right where he wanted me—all the blood in my body instantly surged straight to my head. I shoved away his hand, which was holding his phone. "Go ahead and post it. I'm calling the cops right this instant! We'll wait for them to get here and have a third-party organization conduct an inspection. Then, we'll see whether these are wild Cerulean sturgeon or farm-raised hybrid sturgeons!""You're going to call the cops?" Brandon scoffed, as if he'd just heard the funniest joke in the world. He then slipped his phone back into his pocket. "Fine by me. Go ahead and call them. I'd love to see whether the cops will believe your stack of papers or the public opinion from my three million followers. When my fans surround your restaurant and splash paint all over your storefront, when you can't run your business anymore, and your daughter gets judged by everyone around her, don't say I didn't warn you!"Having said his piece, he s

The officer's hand stiffened for a moment, and he glanced at me, slightly surprised. "Of course. We'll conduct the inspection according to procedure as well." My bail pending trial was set at 300 thousand dollars. My bank account only had enough money to pay my employees for half a month. I couldn't even scrape together the remaining amount. Consequently, all I could do was wait for the test results while staying in the detention center.…The following 19 days felt like 19 years. My cellmate came across the news about me and learned that I was the "unscrupulous businessman who sold endangered fish". One night, while I was asleep, he punched me twice and kicked me so hard that my ribs ached for an entire week. I spent the rest of the night lying awake in bed.Every now and then, the guard would bring word from outside. People were splashing paint at my shopfront every single day. My landlord wanted to terminate the lease and withheld the 30 grand security deposit. All of the

Mr. Davis handed the flash drive to Officer Miller. "This contains the private transaction records we found between him and 23 businesses over the past three years. We've organized everything into a complete chain of evidence."The hall devolved into chaos in an instant.A burly man wearing a cheese fondue restaurant apron howled and lunged forward. "That's him! He deliberately blocked my surveillance cameras so I couldn't prove my innocence and shook me down for 12 grand!"He grabbed Brandon by the collar and was ready to throw a punch, but the officers nearby hastily stepped in and stopped him. Brandon trembled uncontrollably, repeating the same sentence over and over again. "I'll pay you back! I'll compensate you, alright?""You'll compensate me?" I crouched, bringing myself to his eye level. "I poured 410 thousand dollars into renovating my two-story restaurant. I lost an estimated 360 thousand dollars in revenue during those 19 days, along with 280 thousand dollars in breach

I gave each of my employees another five grand as a compensation bonus for the time they had been forced out of work. I called them to let them know that my restaurant was reopening and that anyone who wanted to come back could report to work immediately with a 20% raise. On the other end of the line, the young waitress choked out, "I knew you were framed, Peter. I'll report to work tomorrow!"I didn't pocket the rest of the money, either. I used half of it to upgrade my restaurant's seafood supply chain, switching entirely to live fish that were slaughtered the same day they were delivered. After hanging up the phone, someone tapped me on the shoulder. I looked up and saw Justin, my former supplier. He was carrying two crates of freshly delivered hybrid sturgeon, and he handed them to me, grinning. "I owe you an apology, Peter. I should've told you the shipment had been sourced from another supplier. If I had done that, you wouldn't have gone through so much hardship."Moving fo

In August, the local consumer protection agency reached out to me and invited me to give a seminar to small business owners across the city on ethical business practices and how to protect their legal rights. I put on a crisp, clean shirt and headed over. More than 300 shop owners were seated in the audience. I shared my experience with them, explaining how to preserve evidence and how to defend their legitimate rights and interests. Once I wrapped up my seminar, a bunch of people gathered around me to hand me their business cards, saying they hoped we could stay in touch and exchange ideas in the future. …I received a notice from the court in mid-September. All of Brandon's illicit gains had been recovered and returned. Every single one of the 23 affected business owners had received the money they were owed. The jewelry store owner who had been extorted the most money was the one who had previously been forced to pay Brandon 30 grand. When he received his money back, he went
