Mag-log in“I refuse to be your Luna, Rafe, and I, Alexie Brown, reject you as my chosen mate!” I slapped Rafe so hard across the face that everyone present in the pack’s grand hall was shocked, including my parents and his parents. For years, I had grown up sick and weak, and had literally ended up in the hospital every two weeks. Despite my constant ailments, I had always overexerted myself to study and train hard. To become worthy of the Luna position someday. Yet nobody knew the cause of my constant ailments. No! They always knew. The Pack doctor. His parents. But to save the girl he’d love from little, they only needed a worthless Omega to serve as her drug vessel. Because of them my wolf never surfaced, and I was considered the weakest in the Pack. The mockery and ridicule were never-ending. Yet, I persevered because I believed that in a world where everyone either wanted to kill or take advantage of me, Rafe was my only anchor. Unknowingly to me, he was the cause of my suffering.

“Ladies and gentlemen, please welcome Miss Alexie Brown, our future Luna.” I entered the grand hall of the Lunskye Pack after the MC announced my presence, taking in the atmosphere and the cheers around. Then my eyes fell on the man waiting on the stage. Alpha Rafe Ryder. Today, he would crown me as his Luna, the ceremony I'd looked forward to my entire life. Every day of my existence has resonated around this moment. Today was supposed to be my happiest day, but unfortunately it also turned out to be my darkest day. I gripped the paper in my hand. The test result I had just gotten from the doctor. But instead of being over the moon that I was finally carrying Rafe’s child, the anger that was swirling in my bloodstream was enough to flush out the baby. Nevertheless, I pulled myself together and stepped forward. And as I neared the stage, the MC went on speaking. “Miss Alexie Brown as we all know is our beloved future Alpha’s betrothal. Her resilience since young beside the Alpha despite her status as Omega, and how she’d trained to be the best female warrior in the Pack has shown us that she will be one of the best Lunas we would have.” While the MC spoke, my footsteps got heavier but I kept pushing myself forward, maintaining my gaze on the man waiting for me on the stage. After what looked like forever, I finally arrived on the stage, my eyes still fixed on Rafe. He stared at me dotingly, a look that would have made butterflies flutter in my stomach before, but all I felt right now was the sickening feeling in my stomach. “You are beautiful, darling.” He said, but I couldn’t even offer a brief smile, and as he was starkly aware of the paper in my hand, he went on. “Today, I will finally give you what you have always wanted. The Luna crown.” Oh yes, what I had always wanted, not what he was willing to give me from his heart. Behind him, the Pack elders were present including his parents and mine. Everyone had anticipatory smiles. I almost laughed at the irony of the situation, my fingers gripping the paper tighter. Without warning, I raised a hand and slapped him when I couldn't control my anger anymore, causing the entire hall to fall into a hushed silence. “Are we even mates?” I laughed bitterly, the silence-filled hall echoing with my voice. For twenty years, he’d used me for his selfish interest. For twenty good years, Rafe had been extracting my life’s essence just to keep Skipper alive. To save his fated mate, he’d pretended to love me. For years, I had grown up sick and weak, and had literally ended up in the hospital every two weeks. Despite my constant ailments, I had always overexerted myself to study and train hard. To become worthy of the Luna position someday yet nobody knew the cause of my constant ailments. Fighting back my tears, I faced him confidently, rage surging through me. “I refuse to be your Luna, Rafe, and I, Alexie Brown, reject you as my chosen mate!” The silence was instantly replaced by whispers from the crowd “Is she crazy?” “No, I must be hallucinating.” Rafe was shocked and speechless, even his parents, as well as the Pack elders. With nothing more to say, I turned to leave but Skipper entered the hall at that moment, looking pale and weak. Her appearance would have made me pity her, I would have run to her and helped her up the stage or supported her to sit down, but all I could see was a liar and a betrayer. With tears slowly streaming down her face, she knelt in front of me, her hands crossing my left leg. “You have misunderstood the whole thing, Alexie, there is nothing between Rafe and me.” She sniffled, her red swollen eyes fixed on me. “Believe me, Alexie,” At that moment, it all made sense to me that I was the fool. For years, Skipper had always posed as Rafe’s sister and my best friend, she had always fallen sick and was always in need of a blood transfusion and I was always there, willingly ready to donate bags of blood for her. Remembering how out of pity, I gave my bone marrow to save Skipper’s life made me want to strangle her. I laughed and asked, “If there’s nothing between you, how come you’re pregnant for him?” People gasped and began murmuring. At that moment, Rafe rushed forward and protected Skipper. He handled her carefully and helped her up from the floor with a panicked look in his eyes. Why didn't I notice it before? Rafe had always done the same thing, always protecting Skipper like a mother wolf protecting her pups, but none of that made me suspicious. I had thought it was only a brother’s love. “So what?” Rafe thundered, his voice piercing the walls, sending the hall into deep silence. “You are a worthless Omega, Alexie, and you should be grateful that I even thought to make you my Luna!” The fact that he didn't deny the accusation and even insulted me didn't surprise me a bit. In fact, I was happy that he’d shown his true colors. My heart ached painfully that I was used, and played by the man who had promised to lift the earth for me. If only I knew that his promises were fake, I wouldn’t have wasted my time with him, I would have stepped away to save myself from such humiliation long ago. Grateful? No! They should be grateful that I saved his chosen mate’s life for twenty years. My palm subconsciously settled on my lower abdomen to feel the life growing inside me. Thank goodness I found out before I became his Luna. Or tomorrow would be the day I died… and my unborn child. I turned my back on them and stepped out of the grand hall, knowing fully well that Skipper’s life would be horrible without me.Alexie’s POV My eyes snapped wide and my hands started trembling, and I didn’t know when the phone slipped off my fingers. Grover knows about Freya? “It appears Mr. Grover has been digging deep into your life in the Silvermoon pack, Ms. Brown, he also knew who you were before you went to the Lunskye pack for the meeting.” I was shocked beyond words when my assistant reported it to me the next day after I was back at the Silvermoon pack. For years, I have tried my best to keep my daughter out of sight yet someone was smart enough to get that information. If he could go that far just because he was seeking my collaboration, what else could he not do? I should have made a thorough investigation of that man before even agreeing to go to a meeting with him. And now that he has found out about my daughter, what could I do to stop him from informing Rafe? Before he ended the call yesterday, he made it clear that he was going to inform Rafe about the child if I made a mistake b
Alexie’s POV Bestie? What an insane lunatic. If I were Skipper, I wouldn’t have allowed myself to cross paths with the person I wronged. And she wasn’t even ashamed to seek my help again. Her audacity pissed me off so much that, for a moment, I was tempted to remind her exactly why she had lost the right to call me her best friend. How dare she! No. How dare they! Also, she must be out of her mind to think that I wasn’t over Rafe by saying she would release him for me if I helped her. Maybe if Mr. Grover hadn’t hinted to me that Rafe was desperately trying to get into business with me, I wouldn’t have figured out what they were doing there. “Alexie?” I couldn’t ignore the voice I just heard because the familiarity of that tone was so strong. I paused on the stairs, turned to my left and I wasn’t mistaken, the voice belonged to someone I had known for years before leaving the pack. “Oh my goodness! It’s you!” She tried to come closer, but the bodyguards with me blocked
Rafe’s POV Alexie’s presence awakened something deep from my soul—the feeling that died following her disappearance from the pack. I didn’t know why that was happening, and I couldn’t control it either. But the anger I had stepped out of the car with had just vanished into thin air and I stood in front of her, with only three steps between us. “Look who we have here.” Her voice jolted me back to my senses, and as I opened my eyes, Alexie looked at me with disgust. “Are you already here to crawl at my feet? Isn’t it too early, ex-mate?” Her mockery sent waves of anger circulating in my bloodstream, making the feelings I had felt earlier disappear in an instant. “You must have been continuously replaying that impossible scenario in your mind that is why you think it is possible.” Crawling at her feet for what reason? For a second chance as she had mentioned? To hell with that. “Your delulu has made you fantasize about the impossible, lady, so get your head straight and a
Rafe’s POVSkipper sat across the dressing table, slowly applying makeup while I buckled my shoelaces. She has been constantly sick these days so we were going to see a professional doctor who just transferred to the Lunskye pack to examine her.Seven years have passed, and nothing about her health has improved. I can even say things only got worse because she keeps having miscarriages and I am afraid that Skipper won't be able to produce an heir if this keeps on.Her first pregnancy was aborted by the doctor because he said keeping it would cost Skipper her life. After all, Alexie refused to help her seven years ago. However, that was in the past but even with that, my heart always burns with rage whenever I remember that moment and how much pain Skipper had to endure. She turned around slowly, her face plastered in makeup. A few months ago, that makeup would have made her look prettier but this time, she looked like a mannequin.“How do I look?”She asked, trying to pose so that I
