Alexie’s POV
I stepped inside the grand hall of the Lunskye Pack after the MC announced my presence, taking in the atmosphere and the cheers around. Then my eyes fell on the man waiting on the stage. Alpha Rafe Ryder. Today, he would crown me as his Luna, the ceremony I'd looked forward to my entire life. Every day of my existence has resonated around this moment. I gripped the paper in my hand. The test result I had just gotten from the doctor. But instead of being over the moon that I was finally carrying Rafe’s child, the anger that was swirling in my bloodstream was enough to flush out the baby. Nevertheless, I pulled myself together and stepped forward. And as I neared the stage, the MC went on speaking. “Miss Alexie Brown as we all know is our beloved future Alpha’s betrothed. Her resilience since young beside the Alpha despite her status as an Omega, and how she’d trained to be the best female warrior in the Pack has shown us that she will be one of the best Lunas we would have.” While the MC spoke, my footsteps got heavier but I kept pushing myself forward, maintaining my gaze on the man waiting for me on the stage. Rafe stared at me dotingly, a look that would have made butterflies flutter in my stomach before, but all I felt right now was the sickening feeling in my belly. “You are beautiful, darling.” He chuckled softly, but I couldn’t even offer a brief smile, and as he was starkly aware of the paper in my hand, he went on. “Today, I will finally give you what you have always wanted. The Luna crown.” Oh yes, what I had always wanted, not what he was willing to give me from his heart. Behind him, the Pack elders were present including his parents and mine. Everyone had anticipatory smiles. I almost laughed at the irony of the situation, my fingers gripping the paper tighter. Without warning, I raised a hand and slapped him, causing the entire hall to fall into a hushed silence. “Are we even mates?” I laughed bitterly, the silence-filled hall echoing with my voice. Because of him, I had grown up sick and weak, and had literally ended up in the hospital every two weeks. Despite my constant ailments, I had always overexerted myself to study and train hard. To become worthy of the Luna position someday thinking nobody knew the cause of my constant ailments. No! They always knew. The Pack doctor. His parents. But to save the girl he’d love from little, they only needed a worthless Omega to serve as her drug vessel. Because of them my wolf never surfaced, and I was considered the weakest in the Pack. The mockery and ridicule were never-ending. Yet, I persevered because I believed that in a world where everyone either wanted to kill or take advantage of me, Rafe was my only anchor. Unbeknownst to me, he was the cause of my suffering. Fighting back my tears, I faced him confidently, rage surging through me. “I refuse to be your Luna, Rafe, and I, Alexie Brown, reject you as my chosen mate!” Rejecting Rafe wasn't an easy thing for me; it was so painful but I had to endure the pain because the foolish me thought I had found a mate. The silence was instantly replaced by whispers from the crowd “Is she crazy?” “No, I must be hallucinating.” Rafe was shocked and speechless, even his parents, and the Pack elders. With nothing more to say, I turned to leave but Skipper entered the hall at that moment, looking pale and weak. Her appearance would have made me pity her; I would have run to her and helped her up the stage or supported her to sit down, but all I could see was a liar and a betrayer. With tears slowly streaming down her face, she knelt in front of me, her hands crossing my left leg. “You have misunderstood the whole thing, Alexie; there is nothing between Rafe and me.” She sniffled, her red swollen eyes fixed on me. “Believe me, Alexie,” At that moment, it all made sense to me that I was the fool. For years, Skipper had always posed as Rafe’s sister and my best friend; she had always fallen sick and was always in need of help and I was always there, willingly ready to donate bags of blood for her. Remembering how out of pity, I gave my bone marrow to save Skipper’s life made me want to strangle her. I laughed and asked, “If there’s nothing between you, how come you’re pregnant for him?” People gasped and began murmuring. At that moment, Rafe rushed forward and protected Skipper. With a panicked look in his eyes, he handled her carefully and helped her up from the floor. Why didn't I notice it before? Rafe had always done the same thing, always protecting Skipper like a mother wolf protecting her pups, but none of that made me suspicious of their relationship. I had thought it was only a brother’s love. “So what?” Rafe thundered, his voice piercing the walls, sending the hall into deep silence. “You are a worthless Omega, Alexie, and you should be grateful that I even thought to make you my Luna!” Grateful? No! They should be grateful that I saved his chosen mate’s life for twenty years. The fact that he didn't deny the accusation and even insulted me didn't surprise me a bit. In fact, I was happy that he’d shown his true colors. My heart ached painfully that I was used, and played by the man who had promised to lift the earth for me. If only I had known that his promises were fake, I wouldn’t have wasted my time with him; I would have stepped away to save myself from such humiliation long ago. My palm subconsciously settled on my lower abdomen to feel the life growing inside me. Thank goodness I found out before I became his Luna. Otherwise, tomorrow might have been the beginning of my death—and my unborn child’s. Skipper would fall sick again, and they would expect me to sacrifice myself to save her. I turned my back on them and stepped out of the grand hall, knowing fully well that Skipper’s life would be horrible without me.I couldn't control myself anymore, so I let my knees drop to the floor and cried out, pleading for his forgiveness. Dino squatted in front of me, his hands holding my shoulders. His touch sent an electrifying shock through my body. I wanted to pull away out of fear that he would take my life, but he held them so tight that I couldn't break free.“Don't kill me, please.”Even though I hated myself so much at that moment, dying was the last thing that I would ever wish for myself. I would rather be far away from Dino than to die. I still want to do a lot of things that I haven't been able to do. “Kill you? Why would I kill you just because Thomas came to where you are? If I am going to kill, then it will rather be him.”That was confusing. Earlier on, his tone was filled with danger. But in that moment, he was talking smoothly.“You don't have to cry, sweetheart. I was only upset that you didn't inform me you were coming back and you didn't care to reply to my messages either.”Just
“I have the video now, Aurelia.”“Erase it, Gwen!”I cried out, not minding if anyone outside would hear my voice. Gwendolyn has one thing that would ruin my life if let out. What if she posts it on social media, or worse, sends it to Dino?“No, sweetheart. This masterpiece cannot leave my phone. If you are too afraid of the outcome, then start doing the things I want. If for a second you refuse to do what I want, I will release it.”She patted my shoulder and walked out of the room, laughing.‘So much for saving her.’Maybe I should have just left her in Thomas’s hands to be killed. Then she wouldn't have been an obstacle in my life. How did she even get the video? Who recorded it? Could it have been Thomas? He was the only one in the room with me. I saw when he dropped his phone on the bedside. Perhaps he had set a camera and had hidden it somewhere I couldn't see it. If it was him who recorded it, how then did it get into Gwendolyn’s hand? ‘Isn’t it obvious? Thomas used Gwendoly
I have never hated myself like that day. I couldn't believe that Thomas finally got what he wanted with me with my own consent. Tears couldn't stop leaving my eyes. I couldn't stop cursing myself either. I knew I did what I did to save someone’s life, but I had just cheated on Dino. My only fear then was Dino finding out what happened. He wouldn't hesitate to reject me—nothing would stop him. If it happened that way, what would I say to him? Plead for his forgiveness? It will never work. What I did is unforgivable. ‘I am in pain!’My wolf cried out, snarling.‘Apparently, you enjoyed the whole thing!’I never enjoyed one second of that moment. I was in pain too. The mate mark on my neck hurt like my neck was set on fire. There was just nothing I could do at that moment to stop Thomas. ‘Do you think Dino wouldn't find out you cheated on him? Have you forgotten that the mate bond between us is strong?’Since the mate bond is strong, whatever I do with another he-wolf, he would sens
While others were preparing to leave the hotel to continue searching for Gwen, I sat on the sofa, lost in my own thoughts, thinking about what Thomas needed from me to release Gwen.I could just secretly inform Dino, or involve the police in the province, but Thomas was watching me. Whenever our eyes met, he would give a warning sign, then point at his wristwatch, indicating time was running out. I stopped looking his way to avoid seeing what he was doing.“I am beginning to doubt that Gwen returned to the pack.”One of the guys said, interrupting my thought.“Same here. Ms. Audrey?”They all turned to me at once as if they knew what was going on. They had a suspicious look on their faces which scared me even more.“You and Gwendolyn aren't in gold terms.”I swallowed hard, controlling the rising apprehension.“I am beginning to think that you know where she is.”My eyes snapped wide, but I quickly looked away.“Come to think of it, Gwen said she was going to the restroom after Ms. A
I couldn't sleep that night. Gwen’s whereabouts were disturbing me. A part of me knew that Gwen didn't return to the pack.Even though she was the meanest lady on the team, she would never abandon her assignment just because Thomas warned her.I was so disturbed that I didn't wait for the day to break before asking from the pack if she had returned. “Ms. Audrey, what's wrong? This is 2am.”It was, but I had to call to check on Gwen’s safety. If anything happened to her, I would be in trouble because I was the one who brought up the field trip.“I am sorry for disturbing you, but I needed to know if Gwendolyn returned home yesterday.”“Gwendolyn? No. Why? Isn't she there?”Fear instantly got a hold of me as my instinct was confirmed to be true. “What happened to my daughter?”How do I explain to Gwendolyn’s mum that her daughter was missing? What would I tell her that led to Gwen’s disappearance? “You aren't saying a word, Ms. Audrey. Where is my daughter?”She sounded so worried. I
I was shocked by everything happening at once. I couldn't stop Gwen, and I couldn't even utter a word. However, Thomas did the unimaginable. He snatched the phone from her hand and smashed it on the tile wall, shattering it into pieces.“Mind your business, Gwen!”He thundered, lunging towards her. He grabbed her wrist, pushed her to the wall, and pinned her to it.“Stay out of our business, especially Aurelia’s. The next time you interrupt us, or threaten to expose us, you will regret your actions!”I have never seen fear in Gwen’s eyes until that moment. I was even shocked to see Thomas reacting that way.I had thought he would stand there, watching Gwen just like I did. “Now move it!”He pushed her out of the restroom and luckily, followed her out. I collected myself, picked up my bag, and hastened out of the restroom. Fortunately, no one was outside or close to the restroom. I didn't go back to the production team; I took a taxi and went to the cafe again. As soon as I arrive
