Chapter 16

Jenna's POV 

"Jace and I are endgame. I know when a man is lying and when he's truthful. So these petty games of yours are not going to work here. Take my advice, Liza. You're young and beautiful. Go find your mate and start a new life with him." I heard Jace's footsteps and quickly pushed her back. "Because you'll only get disappointed here. The man who fúcked you before was a player. But the man I married is the father of my child... And I know he's mine alone."

She was fuming in anger. Her face was pink and tear drops, like two diamonds, lingered in the corner of her eyes. 

"Liza, you're crying?" His forehead creased. 

"Liza is just emotional. She was telling me about her parents' death." I went into his arms and he happily returned his hand to my waist. 

"Don't let her talk about it again, Jenna. When she starts crying, she cries for hours."

"I'll keep that in mind. She looks tired. Shall we let her go?" I looked at Jace and he kissed my cheeks. 

"Hmm. Bye, Liza. We'll see you around later." 

She smiled and wiped her cheeks. When she turned, I heard her tell me over the mind link, 'This is not over, temporary Luna Queen.' 

That stole my smile. 

'I know him better than you, after all we've been together for years. I know what makes him smile. I know what makes him angry. I know the man behind that crown. I know the beast he becomes in bed and what can tame him down. While you know nothing. '

'Take your used áss out of here, cousin-mistress, before I kick it and bruise it.' I growled on the link.

'We'll see who'll kick whose àss, his new toy!' She closed the door behind her and exited whereas I suppressed the need to fly down the corridor and catch her.

My heart was pounding crazily. I couldn't take her words out of my head. 

Temporary Luna Queen.

I know him better than you, after all we've been together for years. 

I know what makes him smile.

I know what makes him angry.

I know the man behind that crown. 

I know the beast he becomes in bed and what can tame him down. 

While you know nothing. 

While. You. Know. Nothing. 

You. Know. Nothing. 

Nothing. 

Nothing! 

NOTHING!!! 

Those words were echoing in my head. 

"Shall we continue what we were doing?" Jace whispered near my ear huskily. 

I quietly raised my face, my eyes dark and teeth gnawing. I grabbed his collar and threw him on the bed. 

"Woah! So wild, Luna Queen."

"You said you'll be honest with me!" I straddled his waist and grabbed his neck with both hands. 

Desires danced in his eyes as he smirked, "I mean it."

"You also said you won't keep any secrets. Then why didn't you tell me your only maternal cousin was also your mistress?" Blood siphoned from his face as his smirk faded. 

"Jenna, I—" 

"Don't try to fool me with that voice, Jace. I'm not going to sit quietly and watch her circle my husband like a vulture. If you choose me as your mate, you choose me forever. I didn't agree to be your temporary mate."

"Who said you are temporary?" He pushed me on the mattress beside him and lifted himself on his elbow. 

I pushed his hand away as he tried to cup my face and looked away. 

"Did Liza say that?" No reply. "That bítch. I'll set her right. But love, I meant what I said. There is only you. Whatever happened before our marriage between her and me is over."

"We have a son and I mean what I said about being his good parents. I want to be a good husband to you." 

"Don't touch me." He howled like I denied him a basic necessity and forcibly grabbed my chin. 

"Don't say that again, Jenna. You're precious to me. My mate is my everything." He huffed, his fingers now cupping my face. "She was lonely, I was lonely. I didn't see anything wrong when I took her as my mistress. But now I'm married. Damn, I am a father. I want to set a good example for my son and all those pups in my kingdom."

"Baby," He joined our forehead. "I never told you about her being my mistress because we were still learning to trust each other. I had a reputation and I didn't want to talk about it while in my mind I was wondering how I'll please you to agree to marry me."

"Now I have no worries. I can openly tell you about my past because I know you won't judge me. I know my mate will never doubt me."

"Never," My fingers found his face too. I looked into his eyes before taking a soft kiss of his lips. "I trust you, Jace. I was just a little disappointed when I heard it from her. I expected you to tell me about your mistress. It wasn't a secret! Everyone knew you had a mistress."

"Sorry, I was just nervous. I didn't want you to doubt me."

After a long beat of silence, I let him lick me to ease off the tension between us. We also had a quickie before I went inside again to wash and dress up. When I came out, Jace was pacing the room restlessly. 

"What's wrong?" 

"A pack in the south had a huge fire in the forest. The rogues did it. The alpha requested for help. I have to go."

"Do you want me to come?"

"Rest for a few days, Jenna. You have so many responsibilities to shoulder once you are introduced to our people as their queen." My lips curved, hearing it again. 

"But this may take a week of two. I won't be able to come home." 

"Is that why you look so stressed... That you won't be home for so long?" 

He smiled nervously, "I don't want you to think I am not giving you enough time." 

"Jace, I understand. You're the Alpha King. You have more responsibilities on your shoulders than an average Alpha. Hell, I will never be disappointed if you can't give me time."

"But we just got married."

"I was Luna before too, Jace. I know duties come first. Don't worry about me. Just keep in touch in messages."

"Thanks, Jenna. You're so understanding. I never thought my wife would ever understand me like a destined mate should." He bathed me with a look of admiration. 

"So what if we're not destined mates? We chose each other and the moon goddess blessed our bond. We are no less. Now go." He kissed me passionately before he exited the room. 

I stood by the window when he was sitting down in a jeep with Oakley and a team of soldiers in a convoy of jeeps behind him.

'Bye,' He waved at me then he kissed our son, whom mom had taken out to greet his father. 

Jace's eyes lingered longingly at him. He kissed Jared's head again before he sat inside the jeep. 

'Don't overthink about Liza, Jenna. It's just you now.' I heard him on the link as the jeep drove out of the gates. 

'I know.'

'I'm all yours.'

'I know.'

'I love you.' He made me chuckle. 

'Me too.' He growled on the link, how can he do that even on the link? 

'When I say 'I love you', you say 'I love you too', okay? Let's do it again— I love you.' I chuckled and he growled again. 

'Jenna, I swear I'll make the jeep come back and make you say that in front of everyone. Say it!' 

'Okay, okay, Mad Alpha. I'm saying it.' I paused. 

'I still don't hear it.'

'Say 'I love you first'!' I was playing with him now. 

'I love you, Jenna.'

'Mee too.'

'JENNA KINGSTON, YOU WILL—' 

'I love you too, Mr. Kingston.' I interrupted as I pressed a hand on my chest. 

'That's better. I feel good. Now go and rest.' I laughed as our mind link split. 

I was laughing hard. However, from where I was in the garden I felt like I was being watched. I swept a gaze around and my breathing slowed down— Liza was looking at me from a window like a psychopath, her face dripping with jealousy. 

'Hey,' I waved at her like we were old friends because Mom was down in the gardens with Jared. 

She smiled at me before I turned back around. 

It's not going to be easy adjusting in this castle full of secrets. 

But I'll make it do. 

After all, this is my home now.
