CHAPTER 40
She closed the door and returned to her own room, acting as if nothing was wrong. In a way it wasn't. If Arius wasn't home, then he couldn't mess anything up. However, he picked a really pathetic time to leave. Seth and Amy would be going home soon, since it was getting rather late. The sun would fully set soon."We should probably get going," suggested Amy as she watched the sun sink below the buildings. "My mom will start to worry if I'm not home by dark.""Okay," said Jaida as she walked them to the entry. "It was great talking to you guys. It really has been a while.""Yeah," agreed Seth as he and Amy walked outside. "We'll see you Monday.""Bye!" Jaida called as she waved to them, watching as they both began their journeys home. She closed the door afterwards and gave a relieved sigh. She had managed to keep Arius' presence in her house a secret, but now there was onl

CHAPTER 41
Arius began to descend, going a bit slower than he usually did. Maybe he was taking into account her fear of heights. She had to remember what Nero had told her. Arius wasn't honest. He would always say the opposite of what he really felt. She would have to take this into account and pay attention to how he said things. She knew he was homesick, that he missed being around people who were like him. But what home was he really longing for? Did he want to go back to that planet that was so far away, or was there another home he missed? They flew down to Jaida's house, and Arius helped her get back through his window. He then came through as well, quickly getting rid of his wings. He instantly went to his bed and lied down, now staring at his ceiling."I'll call you when dinner's ready, okay?" she told him as she left his dark room. He only nodded, even though she couldn't see. Once she had left, he closed his eyes and let out a deep si

CHAPTER 42
It was another Friday, and it was currently their fourth hour class: gym. It was Arius' favorite class, because first off it was easy, and second there was never any homework. He didn't have to worry about failing gym as long as he participated. Today they would be taking a break from their track unit to take care of a physical fitness test. Most of the students were anything but pleased, but some were actually looking forward to this as a break from running. Others, like Arius and Jaida, didn't care either way. Some of the teachers were currently outside, sitting around and talking. Mr. Owens happened to be one of them. His eyes were currently on the gym students, but he was at least pretending to be listening in on the conversation between his fellow coworkers. He just found that the physical fitness test was more interesting. Besides, he wanted to see how well they would do.The ki

CHAPTER 43
Arius suddenly stopped walking as a soft tingle ran down his spine. It wasn't something that happened that often, and he knew exactly who had done it. Lucius was in the area somewhere, but his presence felt weak. He was probably a good distance away from them right now. This is just great. What do I do now?"Arius?" questioned Jaida as she and Mr. Owens stopped, glancing back at him. He couldn't say anything to her right now, but he didn't need to. She was easily able to interpret his expression.Jaida turned to Mr. Owens, a bright smile on her face. She had to make up an excuse so she could talk to Arius in private for a moment."Um, Mr. Owens?" she began, drawing his eyes away from Arius. "I need to take care of something quick, so could you wait here?" He nodded, and Jaida ran over to Arius. "Come on," she told him as she walked into a nearby department store. "

CHAPTER 44
Lucius watched as Jaida and Arius entered the alleyway. Arius quickly got between the angel and Mr. Owens, a hard glare on his face."Mr. Owens!" cried Jaida as she got down next to him. "Are you alright? Did he hurt you?""It's great to see you again, Arius," began Lucius, drawing everyone's attention. "I've been bored lately. Killing these pathetic humans is starting to get tiring. I'd much rather watch you burn.""Just shut up," spat Arius. "I'm not about to let you have your way. Besides, as long as I have a keystone, your magic can't touch me." He smirked arrogantly and quickly charged towards the angel. He tried to punch the man right between his eyes but missed. Lucius tried sending a knee into Arius' chest, but the Deslyan quickly jumped up and away. Arius pushed off the side of one of the buildings, heading right for the angel

CHAPTER 45
Jaida and Arius were currently standing in Arius' room, talking. They had originally been discussing Mr. Owens and how well he could keep secrets. Arius was skeptical, but that was expected. After all, if anyone else were to find out about him, he'd have a serious problem on his hands."Jai," began Arius, catching her attention. He had a very serious expression on his face. This was a topic he had given some thought to, and he wanted her to hear him out. He put on a stern face and began his demand. "From now on, I don't want you following me into the battles with Lucius.""Why not?" she asked him a bit sadly. To be honest, she liked watching him fight the angel. She liked the way he looked with his wings. Even though they were black, he resembled a real angel when he fought. For a boy, he was exceedingly graceful."What Lucius said was

CHAPTER 46
Jaida was sitting alone on a bench in the park, currently fighting back a second batch of tears that wanted to fall. She hated getting yelled at, especially by Arius. She was trying so hard not to get in his way, but it just wasn't working. She knew that what he had said was true. Every time they fought Lucius, he'd go after her instead, and Arius would end up having to save her. She ruined every chance he had to kill the angel, to save their planet. She really wasn't much of a help at all. However, that didn't justify what he had said to her.Jaida sighed as she lifted her head out of her hands. She had lost track of time, and when she looked around, she realized just how dark it had gotten. The park was exceptionally dark since there weren't any streetlamps in it. Places like this were very dangerous at night. There was no light to give away attackers and not enough people to feel safe around. Jaida had really done it th

CHAPTER 47
Jaida's eyes opened, but all she saw was a swirl of black feathers as the metal against her throat disappeared and the man's cold hand was removed from her stomach. She felt herself being pulled away, completely unsure of what was going on. She was suddenly pulled against something soft, and there was a firm arm locked around her shoulders, keeping her where she was. When she had finally stopped moving and her heart stopped racing, she took the time to figure out what had happened. She looked up and instantly relaxed a bit when she saw Arius' blood red eyes. They seemed to glow even in the dark. Right now he was shooting a death glare at the man he had recently punched out. However, he hadn't hit the man quite hard enough since he was getting back up. Arius kept his eyes on him, holding Jaida rather closely."Arius?" she questioned softly, drawing his eyes to her. He released her shou

CHAPTER 48
Jaida just stared at him, an expression of pure sympathy on her face. Arius was in a great deal of mental pain right now, and she had no idea how she could help him. If only she could turn back time, if only she would have paid attention to the time it was…then maybe none of this would have happened. She hated to admit it, but it was her fault. If only she had been more careful, if only she hadn't gotten so upset…if only she were stronger. There has to be something I can do.Jaida began to raise her arms cautiously, keeping her eyes on Arius. She wanted to embrace him, to try and comfort him. He looked so much like a lost child right now, one in desperate need of a safe haven. She wanted to help him, but the question was would he let her. He was a stubborn person, and he didn't strike her as the kind who wanted pity and sympathy. But everyone needed to be comforted once in a while, right? It couldn't hurt to tr

CHAPTER 49
Arius watched as Jaida left his room, probably wanting to change out of her uniform. He realized then that he kind of liked having her around. He really didn't mind if she followed him into his battles with Lucius just so long as she didn't get hurt. He didn't want to have to keep saving her and missing his chance at winning. However, she was probably safer with him than by herself. If she was alone, then anyone could attack her, including Lucius. If he was going to guarantee her life, he'd have to keep her with him, no matter what. Since when did saving a planet get so complicated? Two weeks. Two full weeks had passed now, and not a single attack was made by Lucius. He had just disappeared again. Both Jaida and Mr. Owens could tell that Arius was a little on edge. However, he had been a bit different ever since he had killed that man in the park. It's not like they could blame him. The killing had been all over the news, eve
