CHAPTER 50
Arius entered the park and began to head to the same place he always went to when he was looking for Jaida. Sure enough, as soon as he got within seeing distance, he could make out her figure sitting there. She was dressed in a light yellow sundress today. Even though it was the middle of December, the city was far enough south so that it didn't get cold during the winter. Even now it was warm outside as the sun blared down on them from the sky. He slowed down a little as he approached the bench she was sitting on. She looked to be deep in thought about something, a piece of paper clutched tightly in her hand. She was just staring at the ground, her green eyes seeming just a bit dim right now. When he got in front of her, she only noticed him after his shadow blocked out the sunlight. "Arius?" she questioned. "What are you doing here?" "I still don't ge

CHAPTER 51
Jaida just stood there panting, her eyes full of disbelief. She soon sunk down to the cold pavement and just sat there, staring at the train tracks before her. She was still trying to catch her breath, but it felt like she would never be able to. As her eyes began watering, she clutched the ticket in her hands, wishing it had been enough to get her there. She hung her head and stared at the red brick walkway beneath her. She watched as a few tears fell to it, her vision now blurring. It isn't fair…why can't I see him? I wanna see him! It was raining, to put it simply. The clouds were gray as they showered the city beneath them in a gentle rain. The day was a gloomy one, but the weather had nothing to do with it. It could be sunny, but the mood wouldn't have changed…at least for one family. For them the rainy day was like a godsend, the rain washing away the tears that stained a young seven-year-old's face as she tried in

CHAPTER 52
She was so out of it that she almost didn't hear the footsteps coming from behind her. She didn't bother to turn and see who it was. She really didn't care. She was too deep in thought right now, too lost in her own sorrows to care about some stranger at the station. She didn't even care what the person was there for or what they wanted. There was nothing she cared about right now at all. A shadow soon fell over her, and she recognized the sound of the footsteps. There was only one person she knew who could step that lightly and soundly on the hard ground below. She raised her head and slowly glanced back, her green eyes meeting red. She found herself staring into the face of Arius, his lips pursed in an indifferent line and his eyes staring right into hers. It looked like he was trying to read her, and she knew she looked horrible right now. Her face was stained with tears, and she was sure her eyes were a bit wide at the shock of seeing

CHAPTER 53
Jaida and Arius stood on an empty street in front of a beautiful town house. This place was much different from her mother's house in the big city. The houses here were a lot bigger and more spaced out. It looked much more like a large town, but the soaring skyscrapers could be seen in the distance. The sun bounced off them, making them stand out behind the line of houses. It was already Sunday morning. Arius had flown all night to get Jaida to her father's. Now all she had to do was step up and knock on his door. Jaida cautiously walked up the three stairs and raised her hand to pound on the door. All the while Arius was watching her, waiting for her to just knock. Eventually she did. She knocked three even times and then waited…and waited…and waited. No one was coming. There was no answer, no sound at all from the other side of the door. Had perhaps her father moved houses? If he had, then there was no way for her to find him. This was t

CHAPTER 54
The day had passed by all too quickly, but Jaida and Arius had both gone to bed incredibly early nonetheless. After all, Arius had just flown the entire way, having to stay awake through the night. He deserved a break for a change. So currently the two of them were asleep, both in rooms that were next to each other. Jaida's father's house was very different from her mother's. It was huge, probably as big as three of the city houses. There were three floors and a basement, and every single room was huge. Half the rooms were unnecessary since he lived alone, so there was no problem at all having Arius stay there. He had taken a room next to Jaida's, and when she had asked him why, he had refused to answer. Jaida's father was obviously very trusting of strangers since he had left Arius to choose his own room in the first place. He had even let him sleep in the one next to Jaida's without so much as a question. And more to the point, his own r

CHAPTER 55
Lucius began to lean down towards Jaida, and Arius felt the urge to try and hit him again. However, he refrained from doing so, knowing that the angel would only criticize him for it. That didn't mean he was going to stand by and watch though. He had to try and stop the angel."She's nothing to you, Lucius," stated Arius angrily. "Stop playing around and fight me!""Sorry, but I can't," he told the Deslyan, now only a few inches away from Jaida. "It's so much more fun…watching you suffer." And with that said, he disappeared completely, his transparent body falling into Jaida's."Lucius!" Arius called, but he received no response. He then remembered that he needed to keep his voice down a bit. Jaida's father was still home, and even though he slept on the lower floor, he wasn't deaf. Arius ran

CHAPTER 56
Jaida felt tears building in her eyes. She didn't want to see him like this. Sure, he wasn't her best friend and maybe he was a bit cold and arrogant, but that didn't mean she didn't like him. That didn't mean she had wanted something like this to happen. The Deslyan didn't deserve such a horrible fate. He hadn't deserved to die like this. He hadn't deserved to die. "Do you like it?" asked a sickeningly smug voice from behind her. Jaida quickly wiped her tears away and turned around. She saw Lucius sitting casually on the remains of a building. He had a smirk on his face, his sky blue eyes focused solely on her. His snow white robes were splattered in crimson. The angel reeked of blood…of Arius' blood. "You…" began Jaida angrily, her eyes full of fire. "You monster! You did this?!" "I asked if you liked it," he reminded her. "Do you? I worked so hard on

CHAPTER 57
Arius' eyes were starting to close, but he didn't want to fall asleep yet. He couldn't. He was afraid of waking up in the morning and finding that Jaida was dead. He had to make sure that she was alright before he allowed himself any form of rest. He wouldn't even shut his eyes for a second. He couldn't risk anything. If she died, there was no way he'd be able to break it to her parents. He wouldn't even be able to explain what had happened. If she died, his secret would be out. It was as simple as that. Arius jumped a bit when he felt Jaida move in his arms. He glanced down at her, watching as she turned into him a little. She had finally stopped trembling, and her breathing had returned to a normal pace. He could even make out a smile on her face."Thank you," she whispered in her sleep. "Arius." This time the Deslyan couldn't suppress it. He could feel the corners of his lips rising agai

CHAPTER 58
It was already two days before Christmas, and Arius soon found out that this holiday was a big one. Everywhere they went they saw people flooding stores, pushing and shoving to pick up gifts, decorations, food, etc. It was mayhem. Pure and simple mayhem. It's not that he minded much. Crowds didn't bother him that badly, but he had to admit that he hated the eyes that followed him. It was a new city and a whole new flock of following stares. He noticed how most of them were once again women, some staring at him and talking with friends. Others gave Jaida a few jealous glares. This is pathetic… "Okay, just a few more stops," said Jaida's father with a bright smile. He was carrying most of the bags, but Arius had a decent amount in his hands too. Strangely enough, whenever Mr. Carlson had tried to hand Jaida a few bags, Arius had taken them from her. He seemed to still think of her as a weak little girl. It's not like she minded

CHAPTER 59
Jaida smiled as she saw couples walking down the streets, some pausing under the mistletoe hung in stores just for an excuse to publicly display their affections. So far she had managed to avoid all of the holly like hangings. She figured that Arius didn't know what they were, therefore he had no reason to avoid them, so she was watching out for the both of them. She didn't want to get caught under it with anyone. Her father seemed to purposely try to get her under one, trying to get her to stand with Arius, but she was smarter than that. Her father wasn't going to get the best of her. As soon as she was home, she wouldn't have to worry about it. Until then, she had to make sure that she wasn't caught under any with Arius. Any other girl would probably try to, but she knew better than that. Jaida's father reached their home first, and he ran into the house to start decorating. Arius and Jaida followed, Arius carrying abo
