CHAPTER 60
Arius shot a glare at Lucius, who only smirked back. He had enjoyed doing that. Arius didn't seem quite as thrilled as the angel. If those flames had hit Jaida head on, she could have been killed. He didn't want to even think about that possibility. He wouldn't let Lucius get a chance like that again. He was going to have to step this up a notch."I love fire, don't you?" began Lucius as two tendrils of fire began circling his arms. He knew exactly what he wanted to do with them. He quickly sent one towards Arius, even though he knew it wouldn't work. He then sent the next towards Jaida. As Arius' barrier dissolved the fire he had been sent, he quickly noticed the course of the other.Without thinking, he dove towards the ground, determined to reach Jaida first. He got there only seconds before it did, and the tendrils slammed into his barrier, dissolving on impact. That was the secon

CHAPTER 61
"Merry Christmas!" Jaida shouted as she ran into Arius' room. She went to his window and threw open the shades, letting the light spread onto the dark walls. She heard him groan in protest as he pulled the sheets over his head, trying to block it out. Jaida only smiled and walked over to him. "Hey, get up!" she yelled cheerfully. "It's Christmas!" He only turned away more, wanting to sleep. He had been up for a long time last night, and it was only seven o'clock right now. This was supposed to be a vacation, meaning he deserved his sleep. "It's early," he told her, his voice muffled by the sheets. All that was left of him was the top of his head. "But it's Christmas, so get up," she told him with a smile. He sat up and shot her a deep glare, his eyes still a bit baggy from lack of sleep. His hair was messier than usual, and his clothing was wrinkled. De

CHAPTER 62
Arius just stared at the money in his hands and then looked back up at Mr. Carlson. The man was still grinning from ear to ear. Arius knew he had the wrong idea about his and Jaida's relationship. Her father obviously thought that they were a couple, even though both of them would deny it to no end. They weren't even close, but no matter what either one said to deter him from his thoughts, the older man had his mind set. Arius just nodded in thanks and then made his way out of the kitchen and back up the stairs. Jaida was now in the living room, and she watched him curiously, wanting to know what he had been talking to her father about. She figured she'd ask him when he came back down, but he was taking forever. She had no idea what could take that long. A half an hour later, he walked back down the stairs, a black jacket accompanying his outfit. He had it pulled rather tight around himself, as i

CHAPTER 63
Arius just nodded, not feeling in the mood for an argument. No matter what he said to Nero, the Deslyan wasn't going to leave him alone anytime soon. It was easier to just answer the questions than yell and threaten him to shut up, because he wouldn't. Nero loved talking, even though he rarely said anything that was worth hearing. That was just the way he was. However, having him around right now would probably be useful, since he seemed to know a bit more about human culture than Arius himself. "Hey Arius?" Nero asked, his voice a bit softer than before. "There's something I've been meaning to ask you about." "What?" Arius asked, not sure if this would be serious or embarrassing. With Nero, it was hard to tell. "If Lucius has the power to destroy the planet," he began, "then why hasn't he?" Arius just smirked a bit, happy that the question was one he w

CHAPTER 64
He disappeared from the top of the building, finally getting bored of watching the humans below. When he reappeared, he found himself in an alleyway. Hopefully he'd run across a few gang members. Then he'd at least have something to kill his time with. He loved picking on them since they all considered themselves to be so powerful. He was going to put every one of them in their place. No one was ever going to match his power, not even Arius. He'd show him that the Deslyans were only a small step above the human race. Lucius smirked when he turned the corner and came upon five men dressed in street thug clothing. They were all in the possession of knives and guns, some currently playing with them. They appeared to be rather bored. They probably couldn't find anyone to torture or rob, but their boredom would soon end. The second he stepped into the area, their eyes went to him. There was a smirk on his face, his sky blue eyes laced with a

CHAPTER 65
Jaida walked up to Arius and threw an arm around his waist, her snow globe in the other. She did her best to give him a hug in thanks for her present. It was hard to believe that Arius had thought of something like this. It made her perhaps decide to revaluate her interpretation of him. Perhaps Arius wasn't cold and insensitive. He was obviously a good listener if he had known that she wanted to see snow. There had also been that time when he had shown her the stars simply because she had wanted to see them. Even though he acted as if he didn't care, as if he hated everything, he obviously had a considerate side. "Thank you," she said as she pulled away a bit. "I love it." She quickly got on her tip toes and gave him a kiss on his cheek before leaving the room, wanting to show her father her present. Arius just stood there, somewhat dumbfounded. He had a rather blank expression on his face, confu

CHAPTER 66
Arius suddenly froze up, a soft chill tickling his spine. This was getting to be annoying. Why did Lucius always have to come at such horrible times? This time the sensation wasn't disappearing. He could feel the angel's presence. The cretin was close by, probably watching them from somewhere. "He's here," Arius stated, and Jaida instantly knew what he meant. She stood up, her smile fading. "I want you to wait here. I won't be gone long…hopefully." "Okay," she said, watching as he ran off. "Be careful! Don't let anyone see you!" She watched until he completely disappeared around the corner, leaving her utterly alone on the park path. She suddenly felt a bit jumpy and nervous. Without Arius around, someone could easily attack her. What if Lucius had tricked him and was now coming for her instead? She wasn't sure what to do, so she obeyed Arius' request and just stood there. She'd wait patiently

CHAPTER 67
With a few mumbled curses, Arius shot a glare at Lucius and then took off towards the area he had left Jaida in. He flew hard, not caring if someone saw him right now. His wings could get him to her a lot faster than his legs, no matter how strong he was. Flying was always faster, and now that Jaida's life was on the line, it didn't matter if a passerby saw him or not. His current mission was far more important.Arius landed on the park path and ran towards the flowerbed he had left Jaida standing by. What he saw froze him to the spot. Lying on the pathway was Jaida, her body completely limp and deathly still. "Jai!" he called as he broke into a sprint towards her, but she didn't respond at all. When he reached her, he nearly choked as the smell of blood stung his sensitive nose. There was blood all over her, leaking from two bullet holes. One was near her right shoulder, the other through

CHAPTER 68
"Exactly what happened?" Mr. Carlson asked again, wanting a clearer answer."She was shot," he said softly. "Twice. I should've been there for her. I could've done something…there was so much blood." Mr. Carlson could see that there were quite a few blood stains on Arius' clothing. It was undoubtedly Jaida's. This was more serious than he had thought, but before he could ask another question, one of the nurses walked up to him and Arius."Excuse me," she began, addressing them both. "You're here for Jaida Carlson, right?""Yes," Mr. Carlson answered, knowing that Arius wasn't anywhere near the proper state of mind to say anything. His answers didn't make a lot of sense, so it was only natural that even a simple response wouldn't come out right either. "She's out of surgery," the nurse said. "

CHAPTER 69
Jaida's eyes slowly opened, her eyelids feeling like lead. She just couldn't keep them closed anymore; it felt like she had been resting for days. Once they were fully open, she blinked a few times, clearing up the blurry images before her. She could see light filtering into her somewhat dark room, but she wasn't paying attention to that. She could see the window ledge, and sitting on it were an assortment of cards, flowers, candies…and her snow globe. She smiled as the light hit it just right, making the angel inside glow a soft golden color. She would someday have to explain to Arius what their kinds of angels were like. Maybe he would eventually be able to associate the term with something other than the monster that Lucius was. That's when it hit her. She quickly remembered what had happened, and now she knew where she was. This was a hospital. She had been shot. Jaida found that she couldn't
