Chapter 31 Consequence of His Return
Faye and Calix barged in when they finally managed to get a spare key from one of the nuns in the parish. Both of them rushed inside together with Sister Bella. They saw Lucas and Selene sitting on the floor, staring at each other.   When Selene saw them, she smiled and nudged Lucas. He turned around and met all of their glaring eyes, with Sister Bella’s the most intense. She launched on Lucas and held him on his arms, her eyes widened in great fury.   “Where is Father Don?!” she yelled. Selene approached them and held Sister Bella on her shoulders.   “Sister Bella, please calm down,” she said softly. Lucas just stared at her with his emotionless eyes, not engaging himself to the rage of the nun.   “Please, just tell me what happened to him!” Sister Bella’s grip loosened up as she helplessly wailed in front of him, her eyes squeezed shut as tears continuously flowed on her cheeks.

Chapter 32 Seeking Resilience
Selene’s eyes flew open, she tried to lift her head and the sudden movement made her dizzy. Faye looked at her by the door, letting out a deep sigh, her eyes carrying worry. “How are you feeling?” she asked. “I’m feeling better,” Selene replied. Faye pushed the button and her bed started to lift upward. Selene just stared at her, her eyes asking an obvious question. “He’s going to be here in a minute, he called me awhile ago.” Selene immediately felt relieved. A smile formed on her lips with the thought of seeing Lucas. “How long have I been sleeping?” she reached for her throat when she felt a sting, her voice sounded hoarse too. “A day and a half. Nothing much happened, don’t worry.” Selene stared at her. “Are you okay? You sound upset.&rdqu

Chapter 33 A Mistake
Lucas was staring out the window, watching as the rain pour outside blurring the surroundings and keeping people out from the street. A heavy feeling on his chest, gazing with his eyes but seeing nothing in particular. “You’re blaming yourself.” Lucas turned to his side and his eyes finally recognized Selene, two cups of coffee on her hand. He smiled at her as he reached for the cups and put them on the table. “Are you trying to read minds just because I told you that 70% of humanity can? Cause you’re terrible at it still,” he teased. Selene chuckled on his remark, she sat on the chair beside him and sipped on her coffee, the sweetness made her grimace. “Too much sugar?” Lucas asked and she nodded, letting an incredulous laugh. “Faye made a bad recommendation.” “She

Chapter 34 A Little Show
Lucas went to Domus Malum and searched for his clients’ application. He knew his Father will come at the weak ones, just like what he did to Mrs. Hathaway, but he was also torn thinking that his Father might come at those evil-spirited and use them against him or to other people. His eyes moved along as the applications flash on his eyes from the screen. From the hundred clients that he had, he needs to pick those people that his Father will go after. His brows furrowed when he noticed something was wrong, he kept on going back and re-reading his lists, but he was certain about what he saw. Some clients’ data were missing and he recognized one that is not supposed to be there. Zera! He cursed under his breath. He hurried outside and hopped to his car and sped off. His hands gripped the steering wheel so tight, his knuckles turning white.

He tried to remember what happened, letting himself get lost in his memories’ trails, and when he opened his eyes again, the Tree of Death was staring back at him. He looked down, he was floating five inches away from the ground. His feet felt cold and stiff, and he can’t move any part of his body. He was startled when an unknown force pushed him and he spun around, shuddered with the wind that brushed against his skin. When he looked ahead, a figure was in front of him. He felt a sudden splash of relief when he recognized it was Selene. She was far from where he stood, and she was smiling. A smile that he wish would never disappear, a smile that gives light amid the darkness of Domus Malum. Lucas tried to walk towards her but he looked do

The police entered the room upon hearing that Lucas has finally awaken. They were in their armored suits, carrying heavy and deadly weapons on their hands. They circled around his bed, their number almost filling the small room. Lucas glared at them, his jaw tightened as one officer pulled Selene away from him. Selene’s tears dropped once again, a stream of worry crippling in her chest. Lucas nodded at her and smiled to put her at ease, which he doubt that worked. “How are you feeling, Mr. Lucas?” A man shoved the officers to the side, parting their ways as he entered. He was not armored and was just in a formal suit with his hands both placed inside his pockets. “I am so honored to meet you.” “Honored,” Lucas muttered and gave out a wry smile. “Is something that my clients say to me the most. I’m afraid you have to set your appointment fir

Chapter 38 Peculiar Things
The officer slammed the door behind him, letting out a sigh of exasperation. “What do we do if we find no evidence to support that note?” the Chief Inspector said, hissing under his breath. His eyes darted to the closed door where Lucas was. “What else? Of course we’d let him go.” The detective once more deeply sighed and went on his office. He stared at the note that was scanned on his computer. They searched for any handwritten letters of Mr. Lorenzo and the penmanship matched. The pen he used also had his fingerprints. But the evidence they have was not enough to prove Lucas guilty. “Detective!” An officer barged in his office. “Mr. Lorenzo’s daughter’s here,” he said. The detective rushed outside his office to meet the daughter. A 17-year-old girl was with another officer, calming her down. She looked disarrayed, her clothes

The detective went back to the station, his head full of doubts. He cursed under his breath for the possibility that he just let a criminal walk free. “Get every records of all these people,” he said and handed the papers to an officer. Lucas wrote down the names of his clients, marking the weak and the most evil ones to require extra security. The detective does not know why he agreed nor why he moved according to his will, he thinks that Lucas did something to get his trust. The detective entered his office, he walked towards his table and opened his computer. His fingers tapped on the wood as he patiently waited for it to completely turn on. He clicked for the search engine and looked for Domus Malum, but nothing showed up on the results. He searched for the parish and only saw the bunker, nothing about its history, or something that can tell who Lucas really is. His

“He was a long missing fugitive, Mr. Lucas. Why did he went after you?” The detective looked at Connor who was being dragged out of the house by the police officers. His eyes darted back at Lucas whose eyes were also following Connor out. “I don’t see any connection, would you please enlighten me?” “I don’t know what happened either, Detective. I believe he got into the wrong house,” Lucas simply answered. “You have to interrogate him yourself.” The detective stared at him for a long second, eyes full of doubt. Lucas saw that he had many questions playing in his mind but the detective chose to step back and turned around, finally leaving their house. Lucas turned to Selene who was sitting on the bed beside Faye who was still in shock, her lips trembled as she speaks in a low voice. “...and when
