David's POV Thats when it hit me. This is what she's felt like every day for the last six years looking into his face and seeing me. "So mommy said that you own a company that builds houses?" He asked."I sure do, I've always liked building things with my hands." I said, chuckling."I like knowing how things work, how to build them. Mom lets me help with her bird houses that she puts together and paints sometimes.""She's still making those bird houses huh? When I first met your mom she had them hanging on almost every tree outside her house.""She doesn't make them much anymore, we don't have a lot of places to put them at home. But maybe she'll start again since we're moving back here?""Yeah. Maybe she will." I stated  When I asked him if he was excited about moving here, his eyes lit up. Describing all of the things he couldn't wait to do, Charlie's had been telling him all the fun stuff she's

Deciding to run errands and get my parents groceries while Killian and david were out to lunch seemed like the best way to keep me preoccupied, that is until I ran into Jill at the supermarket.  I couldn't very well ignore her, but how much does she actually know? I'm pretty sure she and Alex were still friends and I'm sure he's blabbed to half of the town by now. Fuck.  Thinking she wouldn't see me and I could just avoid her was a pipe dream, why would my luck start today? "Char? I-I thought you moved. What are you doing here? She asked.  "Oh, yeah. I did move. To California, but we're moving back here to spend more time with my parents." "We?" Oh cock suck, mother of fuck. "Yes, we. I have a six year old son named Killian." Please don't throat punch me, ple- "Huh. Guess David really wasn't careful when you guys slept together." She said with a smug look on her fac

Jill's POV After Charlie left I sat at the coffee shop for probably at least two hours, just pondering what I could do to help. If I actually could or should do anything to help. Not knowing what to do, I sent a text to the only person who was still my friend. Alex. Shit. Is this a good idea? Probably not, but I wanna try and help anyway that I can. 15 minutes go by before Alex finally shows up. "Jilly beans, what's up?" "I saw Char today. We had coffee and she told me about what's been going on. About Killian." "Okay? Is that why you texted me? Because you found out she and David have a son?" "No, asswipe. I texted you because I wanna help them. I know, I know. You think I should stay out of it and my my own business. BUT we know them better than anyone. We can help them Alex. Honestly I think they're meant to be together. I noticed the way he used to look at her, he's loved her from the second

Charlie's POV  God, I've had enough serious conversation the last couple of weeks to last a freaking life time.  Sneaking off to the side of the yard I pulled my phone out. Dualing David's number and preparing myself for a blunt short conversation. I knew he still didn't want to talk to me about anything besides Killian but I had to try. "Yes?" I furrowed my brow at the way he answer his phone. Alright, asshole. "Uh David? Hey, it's Charlie. I was wondering if you had a minute to talk?" "I know it's you," he said.  "Oh, well. I--" I was already bothered by the way he decided to start this conversation off. "What is it Charlie? Is Killian okay?" "Uh, no. Yeah, he's fine. Everything's fine." I said.  "Then why are you calling? I'm about to go into a meeting with a new investor." So he didn't give a shit if I was calling him unless it had something to

Charlie's POVGoing back to California was supposed to be simple. Pack up our things, ship it to Jacksonville, and go home. But I never anticipated that David would come with us, I really hope this doesn't turn into a cluster fuck and we can all get along.I have no idea what was going on between us, our phone conversation in the text that followed afterwards gave me more questions than answers. I was more confused than I've ever felt in my entire life. I close my eyes and pinch the top of my nose as regret weighs me down, I really did plan to tell the truth one day but I always pictured it happening on my terms not because of a funeral. I'm not ready or prepared to spend this much time with him.sitting on the porch waiting for David to pick us up I can see my hot breath fill the freezing air as I stare out onto the road, waiting for any sign of his car.Maybe he changed his mind, maybe he's not coming today, possibly luck will
