Alle Kapitel von Once Upon a Forbidden Mate: Kapitel 71 – Kapitel 77

The morning two days after Becka’s escape, I was woken up at 5 am by the sound of a baby crying. I had already been making plans to leave the pack before Brianna broke everyone out. I had given up my flat and moved in with my sister, Gracie, under the guise of helping her out with the baby, but now I felt as though I was stuck in limbo.I wanted to locate my mate and beg her to accept me as her fated mate again. I had a good idea where she would be, but I knew the Alpha’s men would be watching me and all of the other surviving guards. The facility had been closed since Brianna had broken everyone out, and I was effectively out of work, but that didn’t bother me. I was only staying in the pack for as long as it took to avoid suspicion and make my escape a clean one.My sister would miss me terribly once I left the pack, especially as I wasn’t sure if I would ever be able to come back. Helping her to look after her baby was the least I could do for her while I was still around. She didn

Showing my cards to Brianna had been a mistake. That was the night everything changed for me. I lost my place in the pack, lost my job, and drove the woman I loved into the arms of another man.My father had mind-linked me a while ago to let me know that Alpha Kennedy was no longer the pack’s Alpha and it was safe for me to come home, but I hadn’t been ready to face everyone back then. I didn’t want to hear about how happy Brianna was with her mates, or realise how lonely the pack felt without her in it. So I ignored his mind-link and continued travelling through the nearby human towns. If it were up to me, I would never have gone back, but my wolf couldn’t live without a pack forever. I needed to find a new pack to take me in, and I was hopeful that my father or my brother would be able to help me with that. They had connections in some of the nearby packs, and their reputations would go a long way to repair the damage Alpha Kennedy did to mine. After the rumours he had people spread

I had lost track of the number of days I had been stuck in the hospital suit. I had been tortured within an inch of my life, then left for dead in a cell when my sister’s mate found me. He had taken me out of there and put me in hospital to recover, which had proven to be a slow process with my wolf feeling weakened by the distance from his mate.“How are you feeling today?” My sister came through the door with her baby in a car seat balanced on one arm and a shopping bag on the other. She looked tired, and it made me hate myself even more for putting the extra stress on her.“A bit better, perhaps they will let me go home today.”My sister placed the car seat on the chair beside my bed, then looked at me for the longest time. I knew she was looking at the cuts and bruises that still littered my face, and thinking that I had lost my mind. Maybe she had a point though, because I no longer cared about the pain I was in or the fact I wasn’t fully healed. All I cared about was getting to

I gave up on the idea of sleep shortly after 5 AM. There was something about sleeping in my father’s old room which made me feel uncomfortable. Even though all the soft furnishings had been replaced in preparation for my arrival, it still felt more like his room than mine. Every time I felt myself falling asleep, I would wake myself up again, hyperventilating and heart pounding, convinced that my father was there to take me back to my prison.A number of times during the night I had thought about sleeping in one of the guest rooms, or Brianna’s old room, but it wasn’t a good idea. According to Eddison, my reputation with the pack was already poor. Being too afraid to sleep in my own room would only make things worse.By morning I was even more exhausted than when I had gone to bed, but I couldn’t change that. All I could do was load up on coffee and hope that I managed to make it through the day without publicly humiliating myself or falling asleep in any inappropriate places.I had ag
