The ball continued, but the tension on my shoulders refused to ease. Laughter echoed through the grand ballroom, glasses clinked, and the orchestra played a soft waltz in the background. Yet, I felt as if I were standing at the edge of a battlefield, not a celebration. Each time I'd turn in their direction and there would be something to piss me off. It's either Dante was whispering something to her and she was laughing or his hand was holding hers like she belonged to him. My wolf was growling at the sight but I kept reminding myself that I didn't fucking care. But I almost lost it when his hand touched the small of her back going a little lower. “Ladies and gentlemen, it's time for the King and his…” the announcer stopped as he turned to look at me, then Adriana. "It's time to welcome the king for the first dance,” he finally said, I dropped the glass I was holding and took Adriana's hand and led her to the dance floor. Soft music played as Adriana and I began to move to the m

The silence was deafening, the type that if you dropped a pin it'd echo throughout the hall. The tension was so thick it could be cut through with a knife.Domenico. The fucking rogue Alpha. The bastard stood there in the middle of the hall looking at me with that infuriating smirk.“How come you're having a party and I didn't get an invite?" he asked as he took a step forward, and my warriors watched him, ready to act if he so much as made a wrong move. His eyes slowly turned to where Raven was standing, and his smirk broadened.“I see something I like," he said, and instinctively I took a step forward.“You coward! You suddenly decided to come out of hiding?” I spat, my voice laced with fury as I stared at him with cold eyes, claws pushing out of my fingers, desperate to sink into his chest.“Hiding?" He scoffed, never taking his eyes off Raven. "I'd call it planning.” He turned his gaze back to me, the smugness in his expression making my blood boil. From the corner of my eye, I s

I pushed my room door open and quickly rushed in breathing hard. Like I was being chased by someone, I closed the door immediately, resting my back on the door with my hand to my chest trying to calm myself down. It was him. After all these years, he suddenly appears. And from the look of things, he's Xander's enemy. And I just stopped Xander from killing him. But I paid my debt. I ran my fingers through my hair before quickly running to the bathroom to wash the dirt off my body. Dante could come looking for me any moment. I turned on the water as I quickly washed myself. There was dirt all over me from my shift and I smelled like earth. When I was done showering I stepped out of the bathroom, quickly wearing my pajamas. One of the many things Dante got for me. I sat on the bed, heart racing as I recalled everything that had happened tonight, why had Xander looked at him like that? How do they know each other? Could it be that…no, I shook my head as I started pacing the room.

My heart beat violently in my chest as I paced my room. A knock on the door made me halt my steps and for a moment I thought Xander was back, not until Dante's voice reached my ears. “Are you in there, Raven?" He asked and I quickly rushed to the door and opened it. I moved aside for him to enter and as soon as he did I closed the door. “I was so worried about you, why did you run off like that? That was dangerous," he said as he looked at me in disapproval. “I'm sorry, I wasn't thinking," I said and his brows furrowed as he studied me like he was looking for something. “You're hiding something Raven," he said but I shook my head, walking to the window so he doesn't see the look in my eyes, “I know you, there's something going on and you're not telling me," he said, "Come on, why would I hide anything from you?” I said as I turned to him, masking my emotions. His eyes narrowed as he took a step towards me. "Look into my eyes and tell me you're not lying?” He said and I chuckle

“What part of I can't shift don't you understand?" I asked as I took a step towards him. His eyes bore into mine challenging me to refuse—to disobey him and that's exactly what I was going to do. “Do not make me repeat myself," he warned as the others watched the exchange. They were all looking at me like I have lost my mind and maybe I have. The atmosphere was filled with tension and it felt like everyone was holding their breath as Xander and I continued to hold contact, waiting for who would break first. By law I'm not supposed to look into the King's eyes, but well, he's my fucking mate and I don't give a flying fuck what the law says. We continued to watch each other and I could see the way his jaw was clenched so tightly like his teeth would fall off. Behind him, Adriana looked at me like she wanted to kill me on the spot but I couldn't care less. “You're really testing me, Raven," Xander growled, his eyes burning with anger. “You're the one who has refused to understand
