EMILY’S POV.I trudged on the road like a lifeless being. It had been too much shock for me to handle all at once. The gentle night breeze blew strands of my hair softly across my face, but I didn’t even bother brushing them away. I couldn’t feel my heart beating. It felt like it had stopped beating. What did I want to do? Did I wish to cry? Run? Curse, and scream?Everything about the night had been traumatizing…John’s Uncle, smashing the heirloom John was so protective of, becoming entrapped by him, and being treated like trash…At first, he had been so hurtful by telling me cheating was what every man did. He didn’t even sound genuine with his apology. He had sounded like I was overreacting. Then the stranger I had slept with had walked in, and he had turned out to be John’s Uncle. How could such a young man be his Uncle? How could I have slept with him?How could I have slept with a relative of John’s!?I dug my hands through my hair, as I walked on the road. Doomed. That was

LUCAS’ POV.I went out for an early morning jog to clear my head, which was filled with thoughts, and jogged all the way to Tray’s house.I stopped there, and began to take deep breaths.“Lucas?” Tray called, and I turned to see him walking towards me.“Where are you coming from?” I asked, breathlessly.“I went to throw out the trash. You were jogging?” He asked, climbing up his front porch.I followed him, still breathing heavily.“Yeah, I can’t seem to think properly.” I replied, walking into his house, and closed the door behind me.“Breakfast?” He asked, going to his kitchen.“Don’t think I have an appetite for that either.” I said, laying down on his sofa.“ A snack?”“Nope.”“Then what do you want?” He asked.“Just take your seat.” I replied, and he sat in front of me.“Is this about the nasty thing you wanted to tell me yesterday?” He asked, and I stared straight up at the ceiling.“Yeah.” I replied, and gave a sigh.“The night I flew into L. A, I could only find an inn, and

EMILY’S POV.I left John’s house after he said all he wanted to, and stopped at a café, to drink a little coffee. I didn’t know what next to do.Maybe I really had to move in because I couldn’t see myself begging John. My pride would never allow it. What made matters worse was that we were going to move to the family house. Had it been it were at his house, then I didn’t have to see anyone. The only time I’d see him would be when I was working. After that, I’d stay in other places he didn’t frequent, but at the main building, it was going to be really… not chaotic, like a real chaotic house was, but chaotic to me, who was used to living alone. After sipping coffee, and envying the people, who were having the fun of their lives without any worries, I decided to leave, and stop assuming things.Their lives may not be as perfect as I thought it was.Everyone had problems, and there was always someone with a bigger problem. I decided to be positive. There was someone dying in the hospital

JOHN’S POV.Since Emily had left my house early that morning, my heart had been light. Emily was going to move in, and I was going to carry out my payback. It was petty of me, but Emily had gone too far. It was just too much.My pride had been stung. I was not one who was used to getting shouted on or insulted. Never had any girl, or anyone spoke to me with such disrespect. I was going to put her back where she belonged. How could she dare to behave coy or hard to get? Emily had broken the engagement, but one thing she didn’t know was that she could never stop loving me. I was the man she’d loved since elementary school. All through middle school, she’d only had eyes for me, and had been transformed into a smiling sausage when I asked her out. Emily didn’t know it, but staying in the same house with me would make it hard for her to forget about me, or hate me.In about two days, she’d be crying and wishing she could hold, and talk to me like she used to; in four days, we’d be makin

EMILY’S POV.The dresses I saw were all beautiful, and I saw for the first time how truly wealthy John was. Katie picked out dresses, suits, blazers, and heels without looking at the price tags. I saw the price of a red blazer dress she bought, and almost choked.Anything she felt would suit me, she threw into the cart, regardless of the price. It was actually crazy. I could see why a lot of girls had envied me back in school. I had never really sat down to think of how wealthy John was because I was determined on getting wealthy myself, and promoting my designs.“You’d look beautiful in this. I’d be blinded.” I heard John say to Katie. I didn’t hear her reply, but knew she gave one.It made me uncomfortable knowing I was the one who used to hear all those cringey catchphrases, but I pretended to be immersed in a dress in front of me.John kept on flattering Katie, and I couldn’t tell if he wanted me to hear, or was really taken by Katie. When I had fought him, he had told me he’d

LUCAS’ POVTray and I had been shocked when Mrs. Mayer decided to give us a second chance. We had forgotten all about signing a contract with her.So, as for her not to change her mind, I decided to leave for New Zealand that same day, since the flight was going to be a long one. Tray had told me to do whatever it took to secure the contract, but I knew in me that if they wanted something more than me signing the contract, I’d still leave.I’d seen far more persistent, and stubborn women. It’ll be shameless to be held down by someone like Stephanie.I went back home immediately, but didn’t see John at home. Instead, I saw Katie.“Katie.” I called, and she turned around.“Good morning, Alpha Lucas.” She greeted, with a little smile.“Have you seen John? Where is he?” I asked.“I’m afraid he left to make preparations for the broken sculpture. He might be back soon. Would you like to wait?” She asked.“I don’t think I can.”“Is there a problem?”“I have to leave.”“Um, are you aware o

EMILY’S POV.The dinner was an intense one for me, with the family not wasting time to hint at me not being good enough, especially the children. In fact, the adults hinted at Katie being the better option, by complimenting her beauty, smooth skills, eloquence, and calmness, although they never said it out loud that they were comparing her to me.It was what I ought to know since I wasn’t a fool.“Katie’s so sweet with the knife.” Derel said, staring at her in awe, as she cut up a strong piece of meat for him, and she smiled, giving him a little bow.“I like how she’s mysterious. I’ll totally want her for a… uh, what’s John to me?” Sadie asked, and everyone laughed.“He’s your cousin, darling.” Her father replied.“And what’s my cousin’s wife to me?” She asked.“I think the answer is your cousin’s wife.” Derel replied, looking like he doubted his own words.“It’s Cousin-in-law.” Jude corrected quietly.“My smart beauty.” Lady Genevieve said calmly, and for the first time that night

LUCAS’ POV.“No, I don’t know her.” I replied, and was technically saying the truth, or maybe it was a half-lie and a half-truth. He asked if I knew Emily, but I didn’t. She was still a stranger to me. I knew her identity, which made me a liar, but apart from that, I knew nothing about her. Her personality, where she lived, where she worked. I didn’t know anything about her, so that passed as the truth.“Why did you ask?” I asked, and he sighed.“It was just something about the way she stared at you when she first saw you. It was like she was seeing a ghost. She couldn’t hold your hand properly. Like you guys knew each other, and she was shocked to find out you were my Uncle. When I told her you were my Uncle, that was when she stepped backwards, and succeeded in pushing the heirloom off the table.” He said.“Hmm. Maybe I was too handsome?” I asked, teasing, and he laughed.“I know you’re teasing, but how can you sound so serious when you’re joking?” He asked, and I burst into laug

EMILY’S POV.The next time I opened my eyes, the suns rays were playing on my face through the open window.“Good morning, ma’am.” I heard a maid say, and tilted my head upwards, slightly to look at her.“What happened?” I asked, and she came to my bedside.“You fainted, and we had to rush you to the hosoital. The doctor said you had outdone yourself, and were being stressed physically, mentally, and emotionally.” She said, and I groaned.“Who said I was struggling mentally and emotionally? Did he open up the walls of my mind to see? Is he a psychologist? I was completely fine yesterday morning, until I began to work like I had twenty maids imbued in me.” I snapped, and she smiled.I didn’t want John thinking in the least that he managed to get a reaction from me, or that anything he was doing was getting to me. He had decided to torture me, and proclaim us as enemies. There was no way I could show my weakness no matter how hurt, sad, depressed, and defeated I felt.“The doctor sai

LUCAS’ POV.I was taken aback by the question. I hadn’t expected it at all. Was she trying to impose it on me to say something nice, or was she really asking for my honest opinion?I sighed, ready to speak. Being honest was always the way to go. I parted my lips to begin, but she was faster.“Let me make it easier. What do you think of her, as a person, business partner, and as a marriage partner? You know if we join forces through marriage, we’ll be formidable. We’ll conquer both the home, and international market easily. We won’t have any competitors.” She said.I was well aware of that fact. Marrying Stephanie and taking over her companies, and adding them to mine was definitely going to skyrocket me to immeasurable success, but…I wasn’t that greedy.“As a person, Stephanie is beautiful, she’s smart, graceful, and eloquent. As a business partner, I think I’ll admire her wits and confidence. She can make potential business partners feel like they’re on the losing side if they don’t
