I searched for you

“Ariel. Ariel.” I heard Blaine’s voice.“No,” I shook my head beneath him, my fingers clinging to his now like claws. I did not want to hear anymore, I did not want to be aware of his death. It was better we both just passed quietly.“It has stopped moving,” he said. “Huh?” my eyes snapped open, and I was staring into gray eyes.“Can’t you hear it?” His eyes were wide, observant. “It has not moved in seconds. I have felt in on my back for seconds now.”“Huh?” I said again, feeling stupid. “There’s no more pressure. Lisen, can you hear any more sounds?”I widened my eyes and looked past him, at the roof of my car that was now touching his head. “Oh.” I said quietly at first, then the pitch of my voice began to increase as I repeated the words again and again, not believing I was not going to die after all.“Do you think the thing knocked, and stopped working?”“I don’t know,” Blaine responded, looking around. “Maybe cars like these are harder to crush.”“We have to get out. We have

Two babies

“What was the reason?” I said quietly, even though I was ashamed of myself for feeling anything but pity at a dying man. Especially when he was the father of my son.“You were happy with Ophelia those first four months after that first night, so why would you be searching for me?”He squeezed my fingers in his, “It appeared that way. But I was not happy.”“Ophelia would really love to hear this,” I said sarcastically. “Why be with a woman and marry her if you are unhappy with her?”He turned his head to look at me now, “You are supporting her now?”“She is a woman, so I hate this for her. But no.” “Why are you with Sullivan? You are not happy.”I frowned, offended that he would make assumptions about something that he had no idea about. “Don’t project, Blaine, I am not unhappy with Kan.”“You are not unhappy, but are you happy being with him?” he said, and I could not give any quick, sharp retorts even though I would have really loved to.He winced and he became paler, “Are you Ok?

Rescue team

I knew it took a lot of effort for him as I watched Blaine turn his head so he could stare at me, but he did it. His eyes looked drowsy and unfocused, and his brow was wet with sweat, but his finger in mine caressed the pendant and his head collapsed again.I told him about the comment I heard from one of his family members that afternoon, and how my mother stepped out to get some things I might need that night but never came back. I described the taste of the liquid in the bottle Ophelia handed to me, and how white the face of the maid who walked into us was. Then I told him how the last thing I remembered that night was staring into Kan’s face. Even as I spoke, I knew the man on top of me was slipping away, but he waited till the end, and when I stopped speaking I was hit by the silence in the car.I was already weeping from having to recount the story and relive that horrible day, but I wept harder now. I could not dare move or touch him even, but I knew Blaine was gone as he s

Keep her away

“For goodness’ sake, Kan. This is more than your petty fight.” I turned on him, livid that he would choose to do this now. “He is dying.”“Why the hell do you think I would care about Tucker's life over yours? You barely got out of the hospital a few weeks ago. You are not giving anyone your blood.”I looked at him, feeling viciously angry for the first time in two days. Why the hell did Kan always act like I was his child or a property he owned?“I can give him my blood,” my father walked quickly toward us, and said calmly. “I have an O negative blood type too.”“You cannot, dad.” I said, turning to him, “You are old.” I said, and only then realized I had just addressed him as dad. He smiled brightly.“I am not so old, my girl.” He placed his hand on my shoulder.“Come then. We do not have time,” the paramedic said, pushing Blaine’s stretcher towards the vehicle. “Please confirm that you are not on any medications that temporarily affect your ability to donate blood.”“I am not.” M

An Italian

I was sitting up on the hospital bed, thinking about how many times I have been in a hospital in the two weeks I had returned. This had to end. This had to end really quickly.“Why did you run off with Tucker?” Kan said, turning around from the window he had been looking out from.“I was running AWAY from Blaine,” I said quietly. Kan had insisted I stay in the hospital for twenty-four hours because he had to be sure I was fine in the case I had any internal injuries that had been overlooked. But if we were going to just fight. We had better just go home. “The guards said you got into an argument. Why did you drive off without security, Ariel?” Kan said, his face twisted in pain, “Why did you drive off with HIM?”“If I had not been driving that car, I would have been dead,” I said, staring at him. “You see that man in the E. R now, that would have been me.” “What?”“The car that hit us slammed into the side of the car I usually sat in, not the driver’s,” I said, and Kan finally move

That is my son!

“He was a well-dressed foreigner, and he and Blaine knew each other?” Kan said, and I looked at him in confusion.“Describe him, sweetheart,” Kan moved closer to me now, staring in my eyes expectantly, “You remember him, right?”I nodded and then described how blue his eyes were, and how his neck-length hair fell down one side of his face, his sharp jawline and the beautiful tan of his skin.“He could as well have been some Italian actor, I don’t know.” I completed.Kan’s eyes were staring at me, but I knew he could not really see me. He was deep in thoughts.“Do you know him?” I asked, cocking my head to the side, so his eyes focused again. He blinked and leaned away from me, and from the way he sighed I had a feeling that he was about to lie to me.“Please, Kan.” I said, a plea that was more of a warning. I had told him already, if I caught him out in one more lie, I would walk.“Yes. I saw him the day I went to the police station,” He said, and pulled his phone out of his pocket,

I never promised

I was watching Kan in bewilderment. Did I cause this? I desperately wanted to disconnect Oliver’s association with Tuckers because that was the only way to keep him safe till Ophelia was no longer a threat. But as I watched Kan now, I wondered if he would turn out to be a bigger threat than all those enemies I feared. He had been powerful enough to protect me and my son all this time, but if he became an enemy, he could be vicious and formidable. I had been his wife for almost two years, so I should know. I knew how much darkness he had in him, and also knew just how much power he possessed to back that up, and I doubted Blaine could protect me from him. If he had been unable to protect me from his wife and family, Kan may be too big for him.But now that Blaine knew the truth, there was no way he would stay away from me anymore like Kan wanted. We had a child who he might just meet, and then he would have to visit him all the time.Kan and I were watching ourselves now, and he

Husband?

“This is what I have wanted to tell you since last night,” I said, swallowing uncomfortably before glancing at him, and quickly looking away again. Why did it suddenly feel like I was doing something wrong when I wasn’t?“The context of this is important,” I said, lacing my fingers together and staring at it, a nervous action I had not done in a long time.“I had no idea we would come out of that place. And when somehow that crusher stopped moving, we realized he had been stabbed in the accident, and he was losing blood quickly.” I said, glancing at Kan to see he was quietly watching me.I sighed, there was no need to dilly-dally anymore.“He asked about Oliver and I could not keep denying it,” I said grimacing. “I told him everything.” Those last words came out a whisper.I could not meet his eyes. When I had been staring death in the face, and when I thought Blaine had only a little time left, it all made sense. But now? Now when I seemed like a betrayer to Kan, it made me uncomf

You don't know Sullivan

It healed something in me to see blood drain out of Ophelia’s face, and how she could not move even as I walked past her.I touched the cold metal that was the door handle and inhaled before I pushed the door open and walked into the ward. Blaine covered the entirety of the bed as he lay there.I stood watching him for a few seconds with his eyes closed, the oxygen mask gone from his face, machine beeping, before I continued walking and his eyes opened when I stopped by the bed. Those gray eyes made me shiver all the way to my toes, and I had a mind to run out of the room and out of the country and never look back.“So you pretended to pass out yesterday,” I said. He squinted up at me in confusion. “Because how are you up and causing a riot so soon?” I said quietly as I realized for the first time that Oliver had his size and boisterous energy. How had I not noticed that since? He was smiling now. “I told you I was strong.” he raised his hand to flex his arm, and I grimaced to see

It was a mistake

I had just walked out of the ward thinking about Blaine and I’s agreement when I felt someone walking fast behind me, and I knew it could only be one person.“Are you not grateful to be alive? Don’t you care about your life at all?” She said, the veins on her neck looking strained from the agitation she must have been feeling.I stared at her from head to toe in the clean-cut severe red dress she had on. “Your time is running out, Ophelia.” I said as calmly as if I was talking about the day being a warm day.She walked towards me, moving her face close, and she grimaced viciously, “Stop barking if you cannot bite.”I scoffed. “When I bite you would not even know it, because your head would have come clean off.”“You don’t scare me.” She stared me down. “I spared your life this time. I won’t next time if you don’t stop chasing after my husband.”I laughed at this. “Chase? Are you blind? Can’t you see I have him already.” She groaned angrily at this, and my eyes fell to her fingers th
