A moment of peace

The past few days had been peaceful for Aurelia. Too peaceful it became boring, but that was better than speaking to Hardin. Ever since the day Hardin returned from her father’s office, he had been avoiding her like a plague. The threats stopped, she could eat whenever she wanted to, do whatever she liked. Life has been very peaceful, but a part of her still wished she could go back to her normal life. Then she sat down and did her analysis. There was nothing special about her old life; She went to work, go out with her friends on free days. She just realized she could still continue living that same life under Hardin’s roof. She had rested enough and today, she decided she would visit her fashion store to see how it was going. The door to her room opened after a knock, and Linda walked in holding a tray containing breakfast.“You’re going out?” Linda asked, upon seeing her outfit.“Yes.” Aurelia replied, adjusting her earrings. She spared the tray a spare before lookin

Her brows furrowed instantly.“You?” she said, her tone flat.Oliver looked up slowly, completely unbothered.A faint smirk tugged at his lips. “You do have other meaningful things doing aside clubbing.” Aurelia glanced briefly at the attendants nearby, then back at him.“Office.” She said strictly.Without waiting for a response, she turned and walked away. She didn’t need to check. She knew he would follow. And he did. As soon as they got to the office, she shut the door and turned to him, crossing her hands.“What are you doing here?” She tried to be as calm as she could. The last thing she wanted was her workers hearing her lash out. Oliver didn’t reply. His gaze moved around the office. “Did Hardin send you here to destroy’ my store?” She laid emphasis on the word ‘destroy’ Oliver’s brows creased. “Why would Hardin destroy your store?” She scoffed. “Are you playing dumb or you really don’t know what your brother said to me?” Oliver took slow steps towards her. “How am

He came

She paced around the room restlessly. She didn’t tell him her location but he said he was coming. How exactly did he know where she was? And why was he coming? She stared at the bandage tied around her thumb and her heart skipped. It was fake. She didn’t injure her thumb, and Hardin might notice. Her eyes darted around the room as if an answer would magically appear. Nothing did.Think, Aurelia. Think. She grabbed her phone again and dialed his number. Not once, but twice. And he declined all.Her jaw tightened.“Of course,” she scoffed under her breath.Quickly, her fingers flew across the screen as she typed vigorously;I already called my dad. He’s sending a driver to pick me up and take me home. Since you’ll be going for dinner, I’ll just spend the night at his place. She hit send immediately. Her foot tapped against the floor as she waited. And almost immediately, her phone buzzed. Her heart skipped as she opened the message.“Stay there.”Before she could even react, a

The dinner

His family house was nothing less than she expected. A big mansion, bright lights, staffs everywhere, and people Aurelia didn’t want to see. She stayed calm, walking beside Hardin as they navigated through the spacious hallway, heading to the dining room. As soon as they got there, her steps slowed. Her gaze moved around the room, scanning the people; Hardin’s parents, a young lady, and the chefs dishing out food. Then it moved to the variety of dishes present, it was as if a big feast was being held.“Hi mom.” She watched as Hardin greeted his mom, giving her a peck on the cheek. She shrugged and wore a practiced smile. “Good evening.” She didn’t direct her greetings to anyone.“Welcome, Aurelia. How are you?” Hardin’s father asked calmly.“I’m fine.” She replied, not in the mood to force herself to have a conversation with people who clearly didn’t give a fuck about her. Her eyes came in contact with Hardin’s mum and they both looked away immediately. There were three empty
