~Lindsey~Deanna and I walk down to the main floor where we meet Grant and Uncle Tom. They look as though whatever they’re talking about is serious, but the second Uncle Tom sees us approaching, he straightens. “What are you two doing? I guess the investigation is closed for tonight?” Uncle Tom grins. “Find out everything you need?” “Yes and no. We decided to leave out before Brady and Luna Maci tore each other apart.” I’m only half joking, and I realize how true my statement might be when I see the blood drain from Uncle Tom’s face. “Shit. ~Brady~ I wake up early, ready to take on the world. I briefly run through my mental to do list as I get ready for the day. Mom is waiting for me in the kitchen when I exit my room. “Brady, we need to talk.” I inhale, prepared to get the lashing of a lifetime. “Mom, I’m really busy this morning-“ “Sit down.” Her tone doesn’t leave room for discussion. I do as I’m told. She holds her coffee cup as if it’s some sort of shield or comfort. She takes a deep breath in and continues. “I’m sorry about yesterday. ~Lindsey~Well one thing’s for sure. I don’t have to fake my irritation when I see Brady in the parking lot. He pulls in shortly after Grant and I. “Hey beautiful.” He grins and leans toward me for a kiss. “Hey.” I dodge slightly so his lips land on my cheek. He pulls back, sulking. When Grant told me about this stupid plan of his, I almost lost it. Not only is it reckless, but he didn’t talk to me about it at all. Just took off and did his own thing. We could have done this together: refined it, planned things out, gone over what ifs and tiny details. Instead I find out he’s on his way to bait Jacqueline into thinking she was his side fling. “Hey don’t be mad. I knew it would take longer if I involved you. Not to mention you can fain ignorance if it all goes wrong.” He shrugs, speaking quietly so we’re not overheard. “You still should’ve talked to me.” I cross my arms and frown. “What if she goes around spreading that I’m a cheater or something? What if it gets back to Hunter?”

~Brady~As soon as the fourth period bell rings, I book it out of class, Colton in tow. I’m ready for this day to be over. I knew that some of the guys in the pack would show attention to Lindsey if the rumor mill did its thing. Unfortunately I’ve now got a hit list for training today. I huff and run my hand through my hair, eliciting giggles from a group of girls standing by the lockers. I smell Lindsey and try my best to make my way to her through the crowded hall. “Jacqueline is right behind us. Don’t look desperate. ~Lindsey~We speak with the lawyer and Principal Jefferson. My dad is called to be informed that I have a day of suspension. I think he’s the only adult that acted reasonably in this situation. I’ve known that Brady wanted to rid the pack of the Jacqueline problem, but he’s talking like he wants her imprisoned permanently, or worse.
