LYDIA When the shadows rush toward me, I lift my hands and push them away with all the strength I have. A soft glow spreads around me, bright and silver like the moon, wrapping me in a shield of light. The vampires hiss and back away, fear flashing in their dark eyes. Behind me, I see Dex fighting alongside the Silver Crescent Pack, his shadows slicing through the air to protect everyone. But I can’t stay focused on that, not when I see Linda standing across the room.My sister looks at me with cold eyes, her body tense and ready for a fight.“Well, do you really want it to end like this, sis?” she says, her lips curling into a cruel smile. “Then let’s play.”I leap forward, but Linda is faster. She pulls out her pistol—of course she does, she’s always loved her guns—and fires without hesitation. The bullet hits my shield and ricochets, smashing a vase behind me into pieces. My heart pounds as I rush at her. I hit her hard, knocking the gun out of her hand, but Linda doesn’t back dow

LYDIA “Your fight is with me, little wolf!” Baron’s voice thunders from somewhere in the distance, sharp enough to make Dex leap into the air.The moment he does, my body gives out. My knees hit the ground hard as a burning pain rushes through my veins. It feels like fire mixed with ice, spreading fast. I realize what it is—the venom.“Did Lydia forget that you and I are connected too?” Baron shouts again, his voice dripping with cruelty.I look up just in time to see the black veins crawling across his skin—and then I feel mine do the same. A strangled cry escapes me as I slip off Clara’s back and collapse, gasping for breath.Around me, chaos unfolds. My friends growl, shout, and struggle against the vampires. Their powers twist the air, heavy and dark. Even though we outnumber them, they seem stronger, faster, almost untouchable. One by one, my friends are dragged away from me. I can barely move, barely breathe. My chest feels tight, my heart pounding like a drum in a storm.“Lydi

DEXA heartbeat runs through me, painful at first, like something inside me has cracked open. Then, that pain spreads and changes, flooding every vein in my body with fire. It burns, but it heals too, like lava surging through me. Every pulse carries both agony and exhilaration until I can’t contain it anymore. My lips part, and a deep, wild howl tears out of my chest. It echoes across the battlefield, carrying through the air until it reaches every mind and heart within the Silver Crescent Pack.In that instant, we are one. One heartbeat, one thought, one breath. When we shift, there is no separation, no distance. I feel what they feel, and they feel the surge of energy that is filling me now. Power floods through our bond like a river of light, connecting every wolf. I can sense Desmond rising from the ground, electricity blazing around him as if he’s been reborn from lightning itself. Clara forms a shimmering barrier that shields our friends, her focus unwavering as she pushes back

DEX Just when I’m about to lose all hope, a faint heartbeat echoes through the air. My eyes snap open, and I see Lydia’s lips part slightly. She breathes in, soft and shallow at first, like someone trying to hold on to life itself. Then, slowly, colour begins to return to her pale skin.“It’s working,” Brad says beside me, laughing with disbelief and relief tangled together.I let out a shaky laugh too and lean forward to kiss Lydia’s forehead. The wound on her chest starts to close, and the blood that once poured from her heart begins to slow. Her cheeks take on a soft blush, her eyelids gain warmth again, and her lips lose that lifeless blue. Her skin, once cold as ice, feels warm beneath my touch. As she heals, I feel something shift deep inside me. Lydia and I have always been connected, but this—this feels entirely different. It’s not just a bond; it’s as if a missing part of me has come alive again. Like remembering I had another heartbeat that had been silent for too long. Her

LYDIA She takes my hand and looks me in the eye. Her touch feels different this time, softer, not full of anger like before.“One day,” Linda says quietly, “we can sit down and talk about our lives. Maybe we’ll even forgive each other for everything that’s happened.”“Maybe,” I murmur. “But we still have a lot to deal with. It might take years before all of that is truly forgiven.”“Then let time pass,” she replies calmly. “I’m tired of living by someone else’s rules. This time, I’ll move at my own pace. No pressure, no deadlines, and no shapeshifters or goddesses telling me what to do.”I can’t help but smile a little at that. Linda’s smile isn’t full of love, but it’s honest. And right now, that’s the best I can ask of her.She stands up slowly, testing her strength as if making sure her body will hold her. After a deep sigh, she looks at me and nods.“Come on, Lydia. It’s time to say goodbye.”Our steps echo against the stone walls as we walk toward the entrance of the cave. Linda
