SERENA: I came all the way from Texas for his wedding and I don't know if there's even going to be one anymore. Now I'm bored to death. Tell me you're having a better day.ME: I don't know your definition of a better day but I'm out shopping with Lana, my best friend I told you about. You're welcome to join if you want.SERENA: I haven't met her yet and there's a high chance she won't like me. Maybe we could hang out sometime. Just the two of us.ME: I'd love that."You know we could've stayed home if you wanted to be on your phone," Lana said beside me.I dropped it in my bag. "Sorry." I gave her a smile. "Have you picked anything to try on?"She sighed, sliding through the clothes on the rack. "I don't feel like playing dress up.""It's not dress up. We're here to have fun. Like we used to."She pulled a pink wrap dress off the rail and held it against herself, turning to the mirror. "Is that the only reason we're here?"I ran my hand along a sunflower patterned dress. "What do you

"She said she didn't want to see me," I murmured, pouring myself a glass of scotch."And how did that make you feel?"I set the bottle down and picked up the glass, taking a sip before answering. "Angry. Sad. Mostly Angry." I shrugged and emptied it. "And the urge came back, worse than before."Elias watched me from his seat. "How did you manage it?""I had a pill in my pocket. When I left, all I could think about was how good it would feel to just take it.""But you didn't."I swirled the amber liquid and turned to him. "No.""That's good," he said, leaning forward slightly. "It means you were in control. Even when it didn't feel like it."The drink went down and I exhaled. "I hit Maurice. I needed somewhere to put the anger and he was the closest thing I could reach.""How did he react?""That's the thing," I said, reaching for the bottle again. "He didn't.""His silence is making you uneasy.”“You can say that.” I filled a second glass and walked it over to Elias, holding it out."

You know that feeling when you wake up and everything feels just right? For a while now I hadn't known it, but today I felt spectacular. Last night was amazing—and by amazing I mean mind-blowing, best experience ever. Serena's influence on me was turning out to not be so bad after all. List of things I accomplished in one night. One, I went to a male strip club. Two, I had more shots than I've ever had in my entire life. And three, I had my pussy eaten by a total stranger—emphasis on stranger. If you'd told me at the beginning of this year that my life would change this drastically in two months and I'd be doing things I never imagined, I would've laughed in your face. Well. Look at me now.I zipped up my hoodie and bent to tie my laces. I hadn't gone for a jog in months and I was somehow hyped up this morning.I finished tying them, strapped my fitness watch onto my left wrist, and headed out of my room. In the kitchen, Lana was hunched over her laptop with a coffee in hand, squintin

"Can I have my phone back now?"My eyes stayed on the screen. Rhea strapped to a chair, blindfolded, legs spread, a man's mouth on her insides while she arched toward him.Every time the video ended, my thumb found replay before I could stop it. I hated watching it. I couldn't stop watching it."Where did you get this?" My voice came out lower than a breath."None of your business."The sounds coming through the speaker were starting to do mess with my head so I turned it off and looked at Serena. "Answer the question.”She sighed. "I went out with a friend—""A friend." I looked at her."Yes. A friend," she said simply. "We went to a club and had fun.""You're friends with Rhea?"She nodded. "We're cool.""Hmm." I turned the phone over in my hand. "You just happened to become friends with her.""Is something wrong?" She tilted her head, eyes moving over my face. "Or is there something you're not telling me?"My tongue pressed to the roof of my mouth. The video was paused but I could

"Can I ask you a favour?""Sure," I said, barely above a whisper."I'm leaving and my plant needs someone to look after it—""Done. I'll take care of it," I said, and her whole face lifted like I'd just offered her a kidney. She grabbed the box from her desk. "I haven't had time to prepare for my flight tomorrow so I'll head off now.""But we haven't covered everything. I'm not ready.""Go through the file, follow his calendar, and you'll be fine."I pressed my lips together and exhaled slowly. "This is too much.""Oh, wait." She went to the shelf and pulled out a document. "Make sure he signs this."I took it. "What is it?""The agreement for—he'll know what it is when he sees it."I nodded and read the heading: Vantrix Enterprises Partnership. "You'll do just fine, Rhea," Amy said, noticing my face."Do you actually believe that?"She looked around the room. Then back at me. "I don't. But I really hope so."I sighed loudly at my life."I'll be back later in the day," Amy promised.
