Bloodmoon Pack looked wrong before we even reached the gates. That told me more than any scouts could have. The border shoulder have been loud after an attack. Warriors shouting, families crying and orders flying everywhere. Instead, the whole place had gone tight and quiet. Like fear had wrapped its hand around the pack’s throat and squeezed until no one knew how to breathe properly. Dante drove beside me and Travis sat in the back with one had pressed to his wound while his eyes stayed locked on the road ahead. No one said much. There was nothing useful to say. Multiple dead and defenses bypassed. No clear every point and inside access. That was all I needed. The guards at the gate stiffened when they saw Dante and they looked even worse when they saw me. One of them stepped forward like he thought he was going to stop us and I opened the car door before Dante had even cut the engine. “Move.” I said. “Alpha Kyle has not cleared you.” The guard hesitated. “I didn’t ask him

The torn fabric changed everything and the air inside the packhouse shifted from shock to suspicion fast enough to make people step back from each other without meaning to. I didn’t waste time watching it happen. Fear made people loud and sloppy and the traitor we were dealing with was neither. I moved away from the bodies and toward the lower hall where patrol logs were kept. I didn’t ask permission because asking would have slowed things down and I was done waiting for people to catch up. Jace followed but he didn’t announce it. He didn’t make a show of it and that alone told me he was thinking the same way I was. “You believe it.” He said quietly as we stepped into the hall. “I believe the evidence.” I said. “And the evidence says someone inside the patrol group is involved.” He said. “Yes. And now just involved. Careful.” I said as I set the torn fabric on the table beside the log books. Jace exhaled slowly and moved closer. He opened the patrol ledger with steady hands ev

Mara came back before the silence had time to settle and that alone told me the universe had a shitty sense of timing. I was still standing near the edge of the training yard with Dante too close behind me and weight of what had just happened sitting under my skin. I had barely managed to force my breathing back into something normal when Mara stepped through the side gate. She looked at me first and then Dante and then back at me. “Did I interrupt something?” She asked raising her eyebrows. “No.” I said. “Yes.” Dante said at the same time as me. I shot him a look and he didn’t even blink. “Good to know everyone is still emotionally stable.” Mara sighed like she had expected nothing less. “What do you have?” I asked. Her expression sharpened immediately and whatever amusement had been there disappeared. “A location.” She said. That got my attention fast. “For what?” Dante asked stepping closer. “Vampire movement. Confirmed and recent.” Mara said. “Where?” I asked straight

The sound of the door slamming shut still echoed through the structure when the air shifted again. This time it carried something sharper and more deliberate. Every instinct I had locked into place before the first shadow moved. “Don’t spread out.” Dante said and his voice cut through the tension while his hand came out like he was already reaching for me. But it was too late. The corridor ahead split without warning and the shadows along the walls shifted like something alive had pulled them apart. Movement flashed at the edge of my vision before the ground under my feet changed direction. A wall slid with the stones scraping. The space between us broke. “Stay where you are.” Dante snapped. “I am not staying anywhere.” I shot back and I moved before the next shift could trap me completely. Another wall closed behind me with a hard grind and the corridor narrowed into a single path that cut deeper into the structure. The last thing I saw before the stone sealed off the view was

The chamber felt colder after Varek said it and the words settled over my skin like ask while I stood there with my knife in my hand and every part of me trying to decide whether to believe him or cut him open. ‘You’ve been part of this longer than you think.’I hated the way it sound and I hated the way it fit. From somewhere beyond the chamber, violence cracked through the corridores and I heard the sharp clash of metal and snarls and bodies hitting stone. Dante. I knew it without needing to see him. The bond under my skin pulled hard toward the sound and for one second my focus split between the man in front of me and the Alpha fighting this way through whatever Varek had placed between us. “He’s persistent.” He said. “He’s pissed.” I said. “That too.” Varek said. Another crash echoed through the hall and then Travis swore loud enough to carry through the stone. So they were still alive. That was good and gave me relief. “Your father understood war better than most wolves
