Alle Kapitel von A Scandalous Marriage Deal With Mr Manchester : Kapitel 51 – Kapitel 58

~~Rain~~Her mother? The same woman locked in an asylum? Selene should know her whereabouts. Why was she kept from knowing where her mother was?“I haven’t seen her since I was a kid,” she goes on. “Since Langston had her taken from this place years ago, it was the last time I set my eyes on her.” Selene looks up at me, her hand gripping mine tightly. “They keep saying she’s in an asylum, but what if that is a lie. I don’t know who else can help me with this, Rain.”So that’s it! The deal she made with her grandfather. Did she agree to marry me in hopes that she’d be able to see her mother again?I help her to her feet and head to the car. “We can talk about this later. You should head to the hospital now.”On second thoughts, the reporters may trace us to the hospital. I send a quick text to the Manchester family doctor to go straight to the house, then give Marcus instructions to leave.Pamela is waiting by the door when we get home. As soon as she sees Selene, relief floods her exp

~~Selene~~The “victims” deny everything. Three women. The only ones we were able to get a hold of and convince to come for an investigation, they insist that the products caused the rashes on their faces. The skin reactions are so real it’s scary, but I am certain Vaughn Beauty products didn’t cause them. These ladies, however, do not want to hear a word of it.“You should be looking for how to resolve this,” one of them snaps, her expression bitter. “You should investigate your suppliers and ingredients, instead of trying to pin the blame on someone else.”Mary slams her hand down on a table, looking completely exhausted with the spectacle in front of her. “Don’t you understand? We have done our investigation. Our products are fine. We have tested them for any abnormality all morning, but there is none. This can only mean that you either used fake products, or you're trying to frame us. Who is behind this?”“No one,” the woman fires back stubbornly. “You think I don't have t

~~Selene~~Another call wakes me up the next morning. But this time, it’s good news. One of the ladies Mary and I met yesterday was on the line with intent to ‘confess’.“Can we meet, Mrs Manchester?” she asks in a timid voice. “I have something to tell you about the scandal Vaughn Beauty is involved in.”“How did you get my number?” I ask, throwing the covers off my body and darting out of the room. My clothes are still in Rain’s. After what happened last night, I don't have the zeal to see him again, but I need my clothes. “Someone gave it to me.”This could be a trap, my subconscious warns. If someone in my inner circle gave her my number, then it could only mean that person has a hand in everything that went down. But trap or not, I have to get to the bottom of this.Rain is nowhere to be found when I get to the bedroom. He’s probably in the gym for his morning workout. I make my way to the closet and shrug on the first dress I can find, making a mental note to have my thing

~~Ava~~I can’t help the laugh that builds up in my throat. Rain Manchester has never been so miserable, and it gives me joy to see him like this just as much as it makes me surprised. I thought he had a happy life with his lovely wife. Judging from how many glasses he has chugged down in a short time, I can't be more wrong.Rain looks up at me, a frown forming on his face. Irritation flashes on his features, but it’s quickly submerged by the effect the alcohol has on him. I sink onto a nearby stool and beckon to the waiter.“A martini, please.”“And something stronger for me,” Rain chips in. He looks a mess. His hair is all over the place, like he has spent hours running his fingers through them. He shouldn't look this downcast. Just a few days ago, he was acting all lovey dovey with his wife at the gala. He stepped in to defend her in public. One would think they were the ultimate lovers. Why is he here instead of being with her?“Do you have problems at home?” I ask him idly as th
