By six that evening, Avaline had learned three things about Blackwood Estate. The house was enormous. The security was almost impossible to escape. And Gabriella could talk for hours without taking a breath. “Ava, look!” Gabriella ran across the sitting room with a purple ribbon tied around her hair. “Do you like it?” Avaline smiled. “I love it.” “Daddy said it was too bright.” “Your father has terrible taste.” Gabriella gasped. “You said Daddy has terrible taste!” Avaline covered her mouth, realizing her mistake. A deep voice came from behind her. “I heard that.” She turned. Eliam stood in the doorway. He had returned earlier than she expected. His tie was loose, and his jacket hung over one arm.
