All Chapters of Dead on Day One: Chapter 1 - Chapter 10

I shuddered when I heard those heartbreaking words.Back then, Sharon was the only one who said she believed in me. She told me not to do anything rash and encouraged me to try applying for the program again. Now, I realized that she was just trying to stop me from going after David.Another guest chimed in, "Sharon, Kyle has such a terrible temper. He doesn't deserve you. David is the one for you. You've known each other since you were kids, and now he's become so successful. What are you waiting for?"Sharon gave a vague reply. "David still has one semester left. We'll see."She pulled out her phone. When she saw there were no missed calls, her face darkened. Turning to Adam, she asked, "Did you pass my message to Kyle? Why hasn't he called me yet?"Before Adam could answer, Sharon's phone suddenly buzzed. Without even checking the caller, she picked it up with a confident smirk. "Kyle, you—"But an unfamiliar man's voice came through, "Is this Ms. Sharon Griffin? We have some

"That son-in-law of mine is so ungrateful. We've supported him all these years, and all he cares about is getting his PhD and finding his biological parents so he can take care of them!" Paula added.A wave of bitterness swept through me.I'd spent those years trying to apply for Westbridge's PhD program, but that didn't mean I was living off Sharon's family.I helped with research for my department and squeezed in whatever time I could to take care of the paralyzed Paula. I helped turn her over, massaged her shoulders, prepared nutritious meals for her, and put up with her unpredictable moods.Sharon never paid for any of the household expenses. I had always used my own salary to cover them.It turned out that the sweet, gentle mother-in-law I knew only saw me as a convenient caregiver and had plenty of complaints about me.Surprisingly, Sharon cut Paula off, "Mom, drop it. If Kyle hears you, he'll throw another fit."She turned and went to find the housekeeper, telling her to

The next day, my parents hosted a family reunion party at home and invited a houseful of relatives and friends.Sharon kept checking her phone, looking distracted."Sharon? Hey? When are you and David going to get married and have kids?" Someone nudged her twice before she finally snapped back to reality.Dad assumed she was just shy and laughed. "David already told us everything. Kyle is a jerk. He forced you into marrying him. I'll give him some money to divorce you. Then, you and David can both move to Ogland with us."Paula chimed in, "Sharon, you've liked David since you were little. I've always known how you felt about him. Just say yes."David reached across the table and laced his fingers with hers, gazing at her lovingly. "Sharon, I came back this time just to be with you again. Please marry me!"The guests immediately rose to their feet, clapping and cheering."Say yes! Say yes!"Everyone in the room was rooting for them.Sharon always gave David whatever he wanted,

Sharon suddenly curled her lips into a wry smile. "You gave him way too much allowance every month. He went and got all this fake blood just to scare me and hide from me, and you didn't even do anything about it."She sighed softly and walked out of the dorm.Outside the building, the instructor said, "I told you, Kyle is dead."Sharon looked at him as if he were still putting on an act."I have to admit, you're a pretty good actor. Tell Kyle he almost fooled me and ask him to come out. He can stop hiding," she said. The instructor stared at her in disbelief. "He's really dead. He died on his first day here. Your family already sent someone to collect his body!"He sounded completely sincere, but Sharon still didn't believe him.Her patience finally ran out, and she lashed out. "Fine. Keep covering for him. Once I find him, I'll pull him out of this school. Your center won't get another cent from me!"After speaking, she stormed off.Adam let out a long sigh of relief and quic

Sharon's chest heaved with anger, her eyes bloodshot. "I sent him to learn how to be a proper man, and somehow he came out even worse!"A flicker of smugness crossed David's eyes.He got out of bed, picked up the folder, and said gently, "It can't be. Kyle loves you so much. He couldn't have done that. He's probably just trying to make you jealous. Sharon, let me go with you and find him."Seeing how understanding he was, Sharon was deeply moved. But after a long silence, she shook her head. "Forget it. Why should I bother looking for someone so heartless?"Just then, Sharon's phone rang."Hello, is this Mrs. Walsh? I'm calling from Oak Hill Funeral Home. I'm sorry to inform you that your husband Kyle Walsh's cremation has been completed, and his ashes are ready for collection."Sharon clenched her fists until her knuckles cracked. "I'll be right there," she said with a cold, fake smile. My heart sank. She was already furious, so that call would just sound like another one of m
