It's funny, because the tropes are so predictable you could make a bingo card. Izuku gets hit with a 'Love Quirk' or pheromone thing, everyone gets obsessed. Or there's the 'Time Loop' where he relives UA over and over, learning everyone's secrets and basically perfecting his approach. That one can get creepy fast if not handled well. A lot of fics also use 'Older Izuku'—he's a teacher or a pro hero returning to UA, and the power imbalance with students is just glossed over for the wish-fulfillment. Personally, I skip those; the age thing weirds me out. The better ones find a reason to age up the whole class, but it's rare.

Oh man, this is the core of like, half the fics on FFN. It’s practically a genre unto itself. The most common one by a mile is the ‘Quirk Awakening’ or ‘Secret Power’ trope. Izuku gets some absurdly overpowered or reality-bending quirk, or maybe it’s always been there but was suppressed. Suddenly, he’s not the underdog anymore, but the strongest person in the room, which automatically draws the attention of every female character. It flips the canon dynamic on its head instantly and gives him the social capital he lacked.

Then you have the ‘Accidental Proximity’ setup. He gets injured, or there’s a dorm room mix-up, or he just happens to live next door to like six girls from class 1-A. Shared living spaces are a huge catalyst. It forces daily interaction that isn’t just hero training, so relationships can develop from mundane stuff like cooking breakfast together or borrowing notes. It feels more grounded than some of the power fantasies, even if the situation itself is wildly unlikely.

A lot of authors also lean into the ‘Protector’ angle. Izuku might save a girl from a villain in a more personal, intense way than in canon, or he defends her reputation against bullies. This triggers a classic ‘knight in shining armor’ response, but because he’s also inherently kind and self-sacrificing, it doesn’t feel arrogant. It plays right into his canon character while justifying why someone like, say, Momo or Jirou would see him in a new romantic light beyond just being a reliable friend. The harem forms almost as a byproduct of him just repeatedly doing the right thing, which is a nice spin on it.

What are common tropes in izuku x inko fanfiction plots?

Oh wow, going straight for the deep end of the My Hero Academia fic pool with that one, aren't we? The whole Izuku/Inko dynamic in fanfic tends to orbit a few heavy themes. A lot of stories I've stumbled into frame it as a post-apocalyptic 'last two people on earth' scenario, usually after All Might fails or All for One wins and society collapses. They're forced into this intensely codependent survival situation, and the lines between motherly comfort and something else just... blur over time. Another huge one is Quirk-related power corrupting Izuku's mind, making him see Inko not as his mom but as a woman, often tied to a possession or mind-control quirk he either develops or is hit with. Honestly, the tag can be a real minefield; some writers use it to explore really dark psychological breakdowns and trauma bonding, while others... well, let's just say the tone varies wildly. I usually scroll past unless the summary promises a specific kind of bleak character study. I think what makes these plots so persistent, despite how niche they are, is that they're fundamentally about violating the core premise of the series—the unshakeable, pure familial love Izuku and Inko have. Fanfiction loves to break what canon holds sacred, and that tension is the engine for a lot of those stories.

What are trending Izuku harem tropes on Wattpad?

Izuku harem tropes are exploding with creativity! One popular trend is the 'Quirkless but Charismatic' Izuku, where he attracts a harem not through power but sheer kindness and strategic brilliance. Stories like 'Green Tea Alliance' pit him against villains while building emotional bonds with Uraraka, Tsuyu, and even unexpected picks like Mei Hatsumi. Another hot trope is the 'Time Loop Harem,' where Izuku relives UA days, accidentally winning hearts through repeated heroic acts. Crossovers are huge too—imagine Izuku in 'My Hero Academia' meets 'Demon Slayer' universe, forming a harem with Nezuko and Shinobu. Wattpad writers love mixing angst with fluff, so expect plenty of jealousy arcs and midnight training sessions that 'accidentally' turn romantic.
