I muttered. On looking at the notification, I could see 99+ notifications. “LET THE LGBTQ COMMUNITY BREATHE!” “LAURA'S KARMA HAD JUST MET HER NIGHTMARE” #JUSTICE FOR ERIC SLOAN# #SANCTION TO LORA KARMA# #THE WICKED MUST NOT GO UNPUNISHED# All the notifications read. The one that got my attention was an anonymous poster that made a meme video clip of me with ruined makeup and some captions that struck me hard. This particular caption was directed to my last post Eric had forced me to make.

“My leg doesn’t hurt that much anymore. I can finally walk a little.” “That’s a relief then,” Leo smiled and stared at the scenery in front of us. “Looks like the sun will be leaving us soon,” he added, contemplating the change of colours in the sky. The blue was slowly fading and transforming into a mix of orange and pink. “That’s beautiful,” I mumbled quietly. “Mm.” he nodded. “What were you laughing about?” I asked. “Were you watching something funny?” Leo laughed and nodded, “My friend sent me some memes.”

“The one with the really boring voice?” “Exactly!” Harry slapped the table, his eyes twinkling with mischief. “I swapped all the flashcards in his presentation with ones that had ‘cat memes’ on them. The entire lecture was an hour of memes, and the best part? He didn’t even notice until halfway through. None of the students told him; they just recorded it silently while trying to control their laugh.”

Suddenly, the video froze just as he was about hitting the floor and a cartoon horny blasted. Bright colors exploded across the screen, his face stretched and farting sound effects played as the footage zoomed in repeatedly. The meme continued for another few seconds before cutting back to the podcast where Gina was already laughing uncontrollably. They showed the other students around her too, all equally amused as they chortled and cackled.

There were another few dozen texts, all along the same lines and starting around the time I’d met Zane. Could they be from Scott? Maybe. They might also be from anyone else whose name began with “S,” or any other letter. You couldn’t tell anything from online names, except sometimes that someone had a sense of humor or when they put their ideology in their name, like KillAllHumans142. I went back to my main feed and found a photo of Jordan giving his brief speech, along with a few-dozen comments about his age and declaring him attractive. It seemed harmless. It was there, however, that I found a meme I greatly disliked. It showed my face on a white wolf’s body with wings. The wolf was also d

Moreover, he became even more confident after finding out that he had a backer. He spared no expense in reposting and spreading it widely, even creating various memes and GIFs to promote the video. The person had a face, and information about him was easy to find. It was Leroy’s personal assistant. The comments section erupted. [What’s going on?! Is this person Seema’s assistant?] [Dumb*ss! Can’t you see that they’re being sarcastic? That’s Leroy’s assistant, and he’s a public figure with hundreds of thousands of fans!]

Outside of him. I even managed to laugh at something on my phone—a meme about houseplants having trust issues. It felt good to laugh, like remembering how to use muscles I’d forgotten I had.

The caption read, “When the drama in your life is so good, even the alpha king wants to watch.” I laughed in spite of myself. Not thinking anything of it, I sent the meme to Nick and went to bed.

”* The internet tore her apart instantly. Brian looked at the screen, then at me. “Should we get popcorn?” he asked. I grinned. “Absolutely.” ***************************** By noon, the internet was on fire. Like actual wildfire. Everyone was dragging Monica like she insulted the whole world personally. Memes. Tweets. TikToks. Edits with clown music. Side-by-side photos of her fake smile next to horror movie characters. Even people who didn’t know her started joining the fight. And the funniest part?
