Chapter 31 Lucian's POV: Gunshots echoed through the secluded shooting range as I squeezed the trigger, sending another bullet tearing through the air. It struck the target dead center. Kael stood beside me, as he lined up his next shot. His jaw tightened before he pulled the trigger. His bullet hit just shy of the bullseye, and he muttered something under his breath before resetting his stance. A young attendant stepped forward from my left, with a bowl in his hand. K reached in, and took a few bullets without looking at him.

Seven shots ring out in quick succession, each reverberating alongside the pump of my heart just before silence stretches.

Nine shook his head. “I can’t believe you still have that.” Six set it back in the case. “You’re still mad I outshot you.” Nine quirked a brow. “Only by fifty meters.” Five let out a chuckle. “Yeah, he’s still mad about it.” “You snipers and your rifles,” One said with a shake of her head. “Sniper? That’s new.” The moment the words were out of my mouth, One and Nine looked my way, while Six buttoned the case back up.

“Alright, Barlowe. You’re on.” *** They took their final shots, one after the other. Ezra went first, steady and calm, hitting just slightly off-center. Shannon took her time—breathing slowly, focusing like he taught her—and fired. The bullet struck just beside Ezra’s. They stared at the target board in disbelief. It was nearly a tie. Shannon turned to him with an impish smile. “So… who won?” Ezra squinted, leaned forward, then shrugged. “I’ll give it to you.”
