I want to go to work early today. Fifteen minutes before five a.m. I was drying my hair with a towel when I suddenly heard my cellphone ringing. I looked over my shoulder at the small table. I approached there then took the cellphone. Kiel's name popped up in the caller's name. I just stared at it. I have no intention of answering that. I just waited for it to die. When it stopped ringing, a notification suddenly flashed on the screen saying that it was the young man's thirty missed calls to me. I looked at the battery of my cell phone. That's only five percent.

“I should probably tell Dad I disappeared halfway across the country.” I snort. “You absolutely should.” “He’s either worried sick or preparing my funeral.” “Potentially both.” Greg reaches for his phone on the bedside table before opening his messages. The second he unlocks it, he groans. “Oh no.” I immediately look concerned. “What?” “I have thirty-seven missed calls.” I burst out laughing. “Twenty-four from Dad.” “That sounds about right.” Greg scrolls further before wincing again. “Oh, God.”

He rushed to it, his heart beating in his throat as he struggled with his password because his Face ID was choosing the moment to misbehave. When he finally got his phone unlocked, the notifications delayed right in his face, almost giving him a heart attack. Cause believe me, I do not want a repeat of last time when I dreamt of that douchebag! My prayers were answered though. Thank heavens! But what I did not expect or rather prayed for was me waking up to series upon series of phone calls blasting in my ears! All because one, beyond annoying individual didn’t seem to understand the simple rule of calling a person twice and letting it be! “What the hell?” I gawked at my phone. The sharp screen nearly blinding with the, “23 missed calls??” And from who? Take a guess “Serena Evangeline Beckett, pick up your phone and stop trying to ignore me!” her latest voice message sounded in the air.

I pulled my cell phone out of my pocket before I sat down at my computer. It showed I had 5 missed calls from an unknown number. All within 10 minutes from each other. Ignoring them, I turned my computer on and began to work. “Looks like the wood will be about a week behind but it will be here. Everything else has ran smoothly. Not as many VPs as opening night but we still made the above projection.” Beta Mason filled me in on it. My phone started to light up, signaling an incoming call. It was from the same number!

Mom: "What? You are in a hotel room and you are saying you are not with a guy. Do I look like a fool to you?" Me: "Mom, I'm indeed in a hotel room but not sleeping with a guy. There must be some good man who left me here." Mom: "Okay, okay. Come back home. I'm waiting for you." Me: "Hmm, bye-bye." I dismiss the call and then my eyes go wide open as my gaze falls on the missed calls. 55 missed calls from Samuel. 25 missed calls from Annalis. 22 missed calls from Lucinda. 30 missed calls from Sianna. And 33 missed calls from Mom.

“You nearly killed him!” “I thought you were in danger.” Rain sighed. “You don’t have a habit of disappearing like this into stranger’s houses and not surface for an hour.” I pursed my lips, thinking about how Rain was actually right. “You could’ve just called.” “I did.” She frowned. “You didn’t pick up.” I took out my phone from my pocket in haste and found out that I had put it on silent mode and forgotten about it. There were actually thirty missed calls from Rain. Wait…thirty bloody missed calls?

“Eve! You didn’t text him your location or anything?!” Evelyn flinched slightly. “No need to yell. I forgot.” Lena stared at her in disbelief. “Do you want to land me in trouble?!” “Why would you get in trouble?” Evelyn asked, confused. Lena dragged a hand down her face. “Check your phone. Now.” Evelyn slowly brought it out. She swallowed. Lena’s patience snapped. “What?!” “Thirty-nine missed calls, and… fifteen messages.” Silence settled between them.

There they were: a string of calls clustered around evening hours. 9:03 p.m, outgoing, 4 minutes 12 seconds. 9:47 p.m. , incoming, missed. Same number. Duration listed as 0:00. 10:19 p.m. , outgoing again, this time 7 minutes 38 seconds. Different number, also +30, but the last four digits didn’t match the first. 10:55 p.m. incoming, answered. 11 minutes 22 seconds. Yet another unsaved number. Then the last one of the night: 11:12 p.m, outgoing, 2 minutes 9 seconds. Same number as the 10:19 call.

I watch Eric’s eyes widen as he looks into his phone before he curses under his breath. “20 missed calls from Mr. Watson. Oh Lord,” he breathed out shakily. I frowned in confusion and took my phone from my bag as well. I also switched off my phone to avoid all kinds of distractions. 33 missed calls from Logan, 20 from Grecia, and 10 from William, also several texts from Logan. “Where the hell are you Karolia?” “Pick up the call, damn it!” And a lot more of the same messages, but with profanities. Oh shit!
