Jasmin, mon frère, qui me soutenait, a fini par lâcher mon bras : « Clara, tu as toujours été forte. Je sais que tu peux gérer ça seule. Là, c'est Léonie qui a le plus besoin de moi. » Sur ces mots, il est parti, lui aussi. Ils m'ont abandonnée, pour la même femme. Le soir, après avoir réglé les derniers détails de ce mariage raté, j'ai reçu une photo de Léonie. Sur l'image, Gervais et Jasmin veillaient tous deux à son chevet. Le collier fabriqué par Gervais était autour de son cou, et la robe de mariée dessinée par Jasmin enveloppait son corps. The moment I hear her voice, it feels like someone punches me straight in the chest. Then I notice something on her wrist—the luxury couple's bracelet I gave her just yesterday. And in that instant, I feel like the biggest joke of all. Turns out the fool was me.

Olivia doesn't even bother to explain, but when I walk away without a word, she finally panics.

I sat at the table, watching the food grow cold, much like my heart. Today was my birthday. It was also Leslie Buck's birthday—Katherine White's childhood sweetheart. I unlocked my phone and opened Leslie's social media page. As expected, a new post awaited me. "Grateful to have you by my side for every birthday. Let's keep our promise to celebrate every one of them together in the future!" The photo showed two hands forming a heart in front of a cake. One of them was Katherine's. I could tell from the bracelet she wore. It was the one I had given her. I gave the post a like, then set my phone aside. Without hesitation, I dumped the dishes Katherine liked into the trash and went out to a restaurant to order the food I liked, celebrating my birthday alone. From now on, I would make sure to enjoy every birthday of mine.
