Seeing her in this miserable state, I suddenly recalled the past—how she always used this exact same pitiful expression to make Carlson break the rules for her, again and again. “Katherine, please listen to me,” she sobbed, her voice filled with that familiar, nauseating softness. “Lena is gone… The living should move forward, alright?” My fingers tightened around Lena’s pendant.
