But tonight he just stood there silently. He even seemed to be struggling to speak. His friend, standing behind him, kept looking towards the forest, pale-faced. As if afraid something would come out of there. Then footsteps sounded behind me. Uncle Sargon appeared in the kitchen doorway. And the atmosphere changed instantly. Simon looked downcast when he saw him. I’d only just realized something tonight.

In this place, being mediocre was the same as failing. I watched silently as half of the freshman class, fifty young wolves, their dreams shattered in an instant, were escorted toward the iron gates by tight-faced academy guards. It was a brutal reminder of where I was. There were no participation trophies at Alpha Academy. You either proved your worth or you were discarded.

I got confused for a second , I was standing at the buffet, which was clearly meant for guests , so I asked, "What do you mean?" "You're not welcome in this pack," he replied, those cold green eyes steady on mine. I looked at him fully. "Well it's not my fault I was invited by your sister."
