She wrote Nathan’s name in neat print on the corner. It was possibly the best wrapping she’d ever done on a present. It was just a copy of A Christmas Carol, but it seemed like the perfect Christmas Eve present for Nathan. She’d agonized over which book to get him for the Christmas Eve tradition, but had finally settled on this one.

He handed it to Lacey. “For me? Well, this is a surprise,” Lacey said as she took it. “Everyone, look what I found outside,” Grandmother Phillipa said from the doorway. Everyone turned to see about ten people standing behind her. “Carolers,” his grandmother stated. The carolers started singing Jingle Bells. Everyone turned their attention to the carolers as St. Nick stood up straight. Lacey took a few steps toward the singers. Brad approached her as he put his arm around her shoulders, making sure she kept facing the carolers. “Lacey, open your gift. You got the perfect soundtrack for it.”

This must be one of the most beautiful houses I had ever since asides the white house. I was busy fantasizing about the house when a man I had never seen before cleared his throat. My attention was quickly diverted to him. He was tall, heavily bearded and very handsome even at his age. When he spoke, it was with a thick German accent but beneath all these, I knew this was not a man you could mess with. "Miss Lana Rawlings, please have a seat" he said. I nodded as I sat on a plush sofa, facing him as he too did the same.
