The Mage's Heart
he replied.
“What is he lecturing you on?” I wondered.
“Never mind,” he brushed it off. “We’ll get free of this cesspool, and I will cast a portal to our next destination.”
“Another book?” I asked him.
“Indeed.”
The mages, apparently, had learnt their lesson not to confront him, and as we passed beyond the boundaries of the city, we were not pursued, except for by a handful of birds that circled overhead.
“Not so discrete,” he commented, with dry amusement. We were passing through fields, tall corn framing the road. “We’ll give it a little longer,” he decided, “and then I’ll cast a portal to the next location.”
