Alex I stared up at the man that had captured my heart. His dark hair fell over his forehead. His blue eyes stared down at me. The way he was looking at me sent my heart racing. He was so beautiful. I knew men didn’t want to be referred to as beautiful, but he was. He had a kind heart. It was a little bruised and battered, but I had a feeling I could help him heal. Just like he could help me heal. “Damion?” I breathed his name.

I ordered. They were still murmuring. I got infuriated. I spotted a man in his early forties and zoomed in on him. I gripped his shoulder and slammed my hands into his chest. I ripped out his heart, and he fell to the ground dead. I dropped the heart on his carcass. I walked back to the porch, and by the time I reached there, everybody was quiet. The only sounds that could be heard were that of the crickets, which sang untiringly every night till dawn. I got a handkerchief from Solomon and wiped the blood from my hand.

Dear Lord, help my poor heart. “What?” I asked. My heart thumping so loud that I’m wishing he wouldn’t hear it. He chuckled and my heart kept skipping a beat. Damn, how is my heart able to do that? How is it able to give me multiple skipped beats? Isn’t that a disease already? “Stop looking at other girls ogling at me.” His voice was so husky. I could just shut my eyes. My insides are about to explode with his words. Damn! “I’m not.” I tried to deny even though I know it’s of no use.

She wiped her tears away, her eyes red as she spoke. "Westley, do you know what that feels like? To offer a warm heart to the person you like, only for them to crush it into the mud beneath their feet. And that's not enough. They throw that mud and the broken heart into the lake, burying it deep under the ice. Westley, I only have one heart, and you destroyed it with your own hands." The man's tall figure trembled, even stumbling a step back. His pale face grew even more sickly, and he opened his mouth to explain, only to find himself at a loss for words.

Strong arms suddenly grip my shoulders and make me steady but my books don’t have time to be saved. “Sorry. So, so sorry. I was in a hurry and I didn’t see you.” A husky yet musical voice says. Hey, I know that voice. Nigel. Nigel Vaughn, aka the guy Cammy has been crushing on since year six. She told me so. Nigel was not exactly a friend, but more of a person I see a lot during school…an everyday person.

I knew it, that you will be too embarrassed and start your favorite hobby- avoiding Jason'' He let out angrily, spinning and dipping me to the music. My heart raced at the closeness and the topic. I stayed mum looking at the buttons of his tux. He grabbed my hand from his shoulder and slowly placed it on his heart. I felt his heart racing beneath my fingertips...just like mine. For the first time that day, I raised my eyes to meet his. "This is how you make me feel." He pulled me closer and mumbled into my hair. I closed my eyes basking in the moment. His touch was warm and steady, grounding me even though my mind was a page erased clean. “Who are you?” I breathed. He held my hand against his heart. “I am Charles,” he said softly. “And I am the man you once loved enough to save.” My own heart fluttered. Not memory. Something deeper. Something older than thought. He smiled a little, voice breaking in the softest way. “And this time, I will be the one chasing you.” I stared into his eyes and felt something shift within me. A pull. A spark. A thread that darkness could not kill.

Slowly, my emotions began to settle, but a deep ache throbbed in my head, reminding me of what I had lost. "What happened to the man who brought me here?" I asked. The doctors and nurses exchanged uneasy glances. Finally, one of them sighed heavily. "Mr. Cooper signed for the donation of your heart. He asked us to transfer his savings to you and left a sum of money with the hospital, asking us to take good care of you. So, for now, the most important thing is for you to recover." I had already guessed it, but hearing the confirmation still hit me hard.

My heart was racing. Then he leaned in, so close that I could feel his breath against my skin. His voice was cold. “You don’t need to hide from me. It was just a one night stand.” I froze. His words hit like a slap. He wasn’t smiling. Didn’t look happy. He just stared at me like he was done with whatever this was. For a moment, he stood still. Then, without a word, he turned and walked away. Leaving me standing there, speechless and… broken.

I pushed myself off the table and walked toward him slowly. My footsteps echoed in the empty warehouse. “This shouldn’t take long,” I said calmly. The man coughed suddenly, while blood spilled from his mouth as he bent forward, struggling to breathe. “That is,” I continued, “if you cooperate.” The man slowly lifted his head, his eyes barely open. He looked terrified. Good. Fear made people honest. “Who sent you?” I asked, my voice was calm, almost bored. The man swallowed painfully. “I’ve already told you,” he muttered weakly. “I’m just a petty thief. I saw a rich woman walking alone and thought she would be easy to rob.”
