Chapter 2

The panic

Anne Pov

Thankfully, his eyes went shut again and he began snoring peacefully like his lids didn't fly open a while ago. I quickly got up from the bed, put on my clothes, and tiptoed out of the room. The pain I felt in between my legs was fire that I thought I was going to fall after a few steps but I managed to get to the maid's Chambers

“Where are you coming from early this morning walking like that?!” Helena's voice made me jolt back; she is our head maid and the Lord over all maids…she hates me like crazy, and I don't know why.

“I…I…I…”

“You?” She scowled, her eyes studying my facials and body, I knew one wrong word and I'd mess everything up so I smiled confidently

“I'm just coming from the prince's room, I went to check if he's awake so I could go clean up” I lied but she just looked at me for a few minutes like she wasn't buying it

“And is he awake yet?” There was this sarcasm in her voice, I shook my head and she scoffed

“Fucking take the cleaning items now and go clean his room!” She screamed like someone who saw a dead rat in her meal, I was already used to her screaming so it wasn't frightening at all

“Fine…” I stood up straight, went to the storage room, got the cleaning items, and went to Charles's room.

I stood at the door, hoping he wasn't awake yet; I needed to clean around before he woke up. I wouldn't want him to think I took advantage of his drunk state; he's been my only friend since I came into this place, and losing him because of last night's incident would be terrifying.

“Knock! Knock!” I said, but there was no reply, so I went in; he was still sleeping. I quickly arranged the clothes he wore the day before and started cleaning.

As I cleaned, my heart kept beating hard against my chest. What if he wakes up now? What would his reaction be if he remembered what happened between us last night? Damn, he'll be so angry!

I quickly finished up and rushed out of his room to prepare his breakfast. I plan to change his sheet when he wakes up…I pray he doesn't see the blood stains before I get back.

“Hey…you look like a mess this morning, where were you all through the night?” My roommate, Bridget asked as she entered the kitchen

“Erm…” I swallowed

“Erm?” She raised a brow waiting for my next words…what am I supposed to say?

“I slept off in the storage room last night…” I looked away from her so she doesn't see through my lie

“You slept in the storage room? How's that even possible? I went to the storage room early this morning to get cleaning items but didn't see you there…” she squinted as if trying to figure me out, my hands began trembling at that moment.

“Ouch!” I squealed as I looked at my bleeding finger, I'd mistakingly cut myself!

“Oh my goodness! I'm so sorry” Bridget said as she got out a tissue and wrapped my finger with it.

“I'm sorry Bridget, I'm disoriented now…” I exhaled tiredly

“You must have been so tired for you to have fallen asleep in the storage room, why don't you ask the prince for a day off, you two are quite close so he'll understand” My heart began pounding at the mention of his name

“No…I'll sort myself out, don't worry.” She nodded and walked off while I returned to my cooking.

In less than an hour, I heard someone call from behind me

“Anne, the prince needs you now”. Need me?! Why? Did he notice something fishy? Maybe he saw the blood stains…shit!

“Alright I'll go to him now” The girl nodded

I rushed to his room with shaky hands to see him with a towel around his waist. He was looking out through his window and almost didn't notice my presence…

“Charles…” I called but he didn't reply

“Charles…”

“How'd I get here last night?” He suddenly asked…wait! He doesn't remember?!

“Well…” I felt awkward but this is probably better than him remembering

“Your friends brought you here…errm, don't worry about your clothes, they also helped you get out of it…I didn't see anything” I said in a rush

“You sound…” he finally turned to look at me

“Weird, are you ok?”

“S…sure I am…I'll go mix your bathing water” I smiled. As I made my way to his bathroom, my eyes made contact with his bed, and another wave of panic hit me; I needed to get rid of that before he saw it!

“Please help me clean my dressing room; I forgot to leave it open so you could clean it earlier,” he said as soon as I came out of the bathroom.

“Yeap…” I patiently waited until he had left before changing his sheet. I took the stained one with me as I went to clean his dressing room.

“Thank you, moon goddess!” I smiled, I finally got rid of all the evidence

Immediately I was done cleaning, I turned to pick up the sheet I'd changed earlier but I was shocked to not see it.

“I…I…I kept it here before!” I said in shock as I looked around with my eyes but I didn't see a trace of the sheet

“Oh no!” I squealed silently as I began scattering everywhere again. I need to get rid of that, I can't let him see it! Oh no! I'm cursed, aren't I?!

“Anne…” his voice called from behind me and I quickly turned to see him standing right in front of me. He looked drop-dead handsome with beads of water dripping down his skin and particles of his hair glued to his face

“You're drooling again…I know I'm handsome but doing that all the time” he giggled making me regain composure

“I wasn't drooling!”

“You changed the sheet again? I thought you just changed it yesterday morning” he said

Dang!

“Yes…I thought it was due”

“Ohh, you should've told me first; I really loved that color…” he smiled like a newborn.

“Anne, what is this?” My heart suddenly sank.

Chapter 25The Choice That Broke the MoonAnne POVThe room was silent enough to hear the King’s weakening breath. My heartbeat drummed painfully inside my chest as every wolf watched me. Some with hope, some with fear, all unaware of the weight in my throat, the knife-edge of destiny balanced inside my hands.I looked at Charles. At the man I once loved in silence. At the man I tried to forget and failed. At the man I might lose forever. His eyes never left mine, not once, not even when pain flickered behind his calm expression like lightning behind clouds. He was afraid. But he stood firm. For me.For his father. For this moment. My voice came out soft and trembling.“I will take the fourth path.”Gasps erupted around the chamber. The healers froze where they stood. The King’s eyes widened, filling with grief and gratitude at the same time.Charles stepped back as if the words had struck him physically.“No,” he whispered, almost breathless. “Anne, you said you would not sacrifice y

Chapter 24Before the Moon DecidesAnne POVI could not sleep. Not for a second. The moment the words I love you left my lips, everything inside me twisted into a storm that refused to rest. The night stretched endlessly ahead. Every hour felt like sand slipping through my fingers, faster than I could hold. The moon would reach its peak soon. And when it did, I would have to choose. The room they gave me was warm, the bed soft, the air faintly perfumed with herbs from the healer’s gardens. Yet I lay awake staring at the ceiling, counting my breaths the way doctors do to steady trembling hands. My heart had never listened to such logic. If I save the King, I risk losing Charles to death. If I save Charles, his father dies.If I save both, I lose my memories of him.Every laugh. Every pain. Every night. Every look. And the fourth option sounded like the cruelest blessing ever given. The room door creaked softly.I turned.Charles stood there without armor, without a title, only a man wi

  • My Alpha, My Heart    A Choice With No Escape

Chapter 23A Choice With No EscapeAnne POVI gasped when my eyes flew open. The chamber burst back around me like a world rebuilt. The Alpha King lay breathing on the bed, his pulse faint but steady. Charles staggered beside me, one hand gripping the headboard to stay upright. Sweat clung to his forehead and shadows bruised the space beneath his eyes.We were back.Alive.But my heart felt like a torn page.I remembered every word the Seer spoke. Every path. Every price. Every thread I might have to cut.Charles looked at me the moment he regained balance. His voice was hoarse, stripped raw.“Do not choose that option. Do you hear me?”I swallowed hard, unable to answer. The pendant he gave me still rested in my palm, warm like living metal. Like his heartbeat made solid. The Alpha King opened his eyes weakly. “You saw her.”“Yes,” I whispered.“Did she give you the answer you needed?”A tremor ran through my body. “She gave four answers. None of them painless.”Charles’s fist tighte

  • My Alpha, My Heart    The Fall Between Light and Shadow

Chapter 22The Fall Between Light and ShadowAnne POVFalling had no beginning or end. It felt like being pulled through water and air and fire all at once. There was no ground beneath me, no ceiling above me, nothing to grasp but Charles’s hand in mine. His grip was the only real thing in the collapsing world of smoke and broken magic. My heart battered my ribs. The rush of wind roared in my ears. I could not breathe. I could not think. Then everything stopped. Not slowly, but suddenly, violently, like crashing into silence.I opened my eyes.We were no longer inside the curse. We were somewhere deeper.A place neither light nor darkness claimed. It looked like a vast endless field of white mist stretching forever, like walking inside the heart of a dream. The world was too quiet. Too clean. Too still. My breath fogged the air even though it was not cold.Charles stood beside me, still holding my hand. His chest was rising fast, but his eyes were sharp, alert.“Do you know where we a

  • My Alpha, My Heart    The Thread that Binds

Chapter 21The Thread that BindsAnne POVNight came quietly, too quietly, like the world was holding its breath. The palace torches burned low, their flames swaying lazily in the dim corridors while wolves moved like shadows across stone. I could hear their soft footsteps, their quiet murmurs, the tension in every voice.Something was shifting in the air. A stirring. A warning.Charles stood at the balcony overlooking the courtyard. The moonlight traced his silhouette, sharp shoulders, strong stance, unmoving like a guardian carved from night. I waited at the doorway, unsure whether to approach or leave him with his thoughts. He must have sensed me, because he spoke without turning.“You are afraid.”I swallowed softly. “Should I lie?”“No,” he replied. “I prefer truth.”I walked forward, slow steps, the stone cold under my feet. The breeze brushed against my skin, carrying distant scents of wolves training below and the faint burning of herbs from the healer’s wing.“You could die,”

  • My Alpha, My Heart    The Price of Light

Chapter 20The Price of LightAnne POVSilence filled the Alpha King’s chamber. It spread slowly through the room like a dark cloud. Charles stared at me without breathing. His jaw tightened once, just once, but it was enough. I had seen that look before. The moment before a wolf either breaks or fights.I wished I was wrong. I wished I had read the curse wrong. But my body did not lie, and neither did my magic. The second heartbeat. The second soul. The connection was real. I could feel it even now, like a thread running through my veins and into his.Charles.His father’s life was tied to his.I swallowed hard. “Charles. If I push this curse any harder, if I tear it away from your father… something might happen to you.”His eyes did not soften. They sharpened instead. “Something like what?”“I do not know,” I whispered. “But the magic is not rooted in just one body. It is holding two. It is feeding between you. It feels like it will collapse if I pull too fast.”He stared at me for
