"An hour and a half to the crossing," Dominic said. "Then we're clear from the cops."
"Mexico isn't our home," Maya said.
"It is now, or maybe for now till everything is over," Dominic said.
Maya leaned towards the window with the windows down and her head tuck out a little the to receive fresh air, to disconnect from all this, from the chaos going on in her life. About living in an entirely new country with no money and no plan. About never seeing her family again. About spending her whole life watching her back and before she knew she was fast asleep.
