Reducing me to nothing.
A shiver runs down my spine, different from those of the day. It is not a shiver of acute fear, nor the excited memory of a forbidden sensation. It is a shiver of immediate, almost organic submission. A physiological, deep response. My body reacts before my mind, before the revolt that could—that should—arise. A sudden, artificial, imposed fatigue falls upon my shoulders like a leaden cloak.
