She had never seen or heard of a creature like this so she guessed, it was an alien, one of those creatures that came from the stars above like the astronomers in the kingdom say. She carefully laid the creature on her bed and quickly got to work. She pulled out her little mortar and pestle from a corner and set them on the table. She took a small bowl, carefully stood on her bed to avoid treading on the creature. She reached out to unlatch the window and stuck the bowl out into the rain. The rain wetted her arm, although some deposited into the bowl. She latched the window back, stepped down and returned to the table.

I want—need—to do something else. I pause to stare at the carvings that seem to be telling a story I don't understand. Wolves, strange beasts, even what looks like…vampires. I place my finger on a vivid carving of a wolf. A great surge of electricity jolts down my spine. I let out a loud groan, taking cautious steps backwards. What in the world just happened? “Someone seems curious about the legend.”

Fear gnawed at her heart as she pressed on, each step feeling heavier than the last. Suddenly, a faint glimmer of light appeared in the distance, drawing Sarah's attention like a beacon of hope. "Alex, look!" she exclaimed, her voice filled with a mixture of excitement and apprehension. It wrapped around his neck, tightly making him out of breath. “Stop!” he gasped and tried to take it off from his neck but his small hands couldn't compare to the large creature's body. He couldn't feel his legs anymore, he was out of breath. He thought maybe it was his end, maybe he was fated to die in his world, maybe that voice brought him here because he doesn't deserve to live more days.

Mom was already in the yard, sitting on the ground and gnawing on the cow's corpse. I finally breathed a sigh of relief and collapsed onto Grandpa's bed. Mom was really strange today! Even though she was crazy, she still knew how to eat when hungry. It was just that she kept switching between crying and laughing. However, this time, she actually killed our cow and ate its meat raw! When Grandpa came back, I would have him ask that shaman from the nearby village to examine Mom. My father fell on his feet and the strange man escaped through the broken window My men went after him while I hurried to check on Samantha.

“I think one might have wanted to, but he got scared off by the second. It was the second one that looked at me funny. It was like it was protecting me?” Ash tilted his head. “Go on.” I shrugged. “I don’t know. You hear things, right? I just wanted to know if you knew anything.” Ash swallowed. “Well, there have been stories recently of strange beasts wandering in the night. I always assumed it was the football team messing around.” It was so odd that both Ash and Soren had mentioned stories of strange beasts. I hadn’t heard anything, not even through the rumor mill at the restaurant. “And the fog,” I said softly. “It just all seems so strange.”

He then nuzzled my neck, inhaling deeply once more. He brushed his lips against my skin, sending waves of fear and excitement through me.

Aurora’s father stared at it in disbelief, walking around it like it was a beast from a legend. “This car—how… how can you afford something like this?” I said nothing. Humans placed value on strange things. I drove them toward the woods, following the hidden path only wolves knew. When the road ended, I stopped. Aurora’s father blinked at the trees. “Why are we stopping here? How are we getting to this supernatural place?” “It is safe,” I replied simply. “Follow.” Aurora had to steady her grandmother, who kept whispering, “I knew it… I knew today would be strange.”
