Amaya felt a flush rise to her cheeks, a mix of anger and something else, something she refused to name. “I do not endure for you,” she said firmly. “I endure for myself. That is all.”
A faint chuckle escaped him, low and deliberate, like a cat toying with its prey. “For yourself,” he repeated. “And yet… you still come back here, day after day, even when every instinct tells you to run. That… intrigues me.”
