Rin’s POV When the relationship broke, the flames continued. It only got more powerful. Curling up into the floor and burying my nails into the wood, I let out a scream. Every muscle in my body screamed, every nerve searing. Thorne's presence filled every nook and cranny of me as the bond tore me apart like a wildfire. I smelled him more strongly than ever, raw and wild, domineering. It penetrated every thought, slid into my lungs, and encircled my heart. I was unable to push it out. I was powerless to resist.

I barely had time to react. The relic screamed in my grasp. Crack. I gasped as it shattered. “No!” I cried, watching shards of the ancient relic fall like fractured stars around me. Thorne’s grin twisted wickedly. “Oops,” he mocked. Then he struck. The blow hit me square in the chest like a falling boulder. I was hurled across the ridge, crashing through trees and scattering stones. My back slammed against a rock with a brutal, bone-breaking thud. Pain exploded through my ribs. I coughed, tasting blood.

I can feel my heart pounding in my chest, each beat a deafening drum in my ears, as the tension between Thorne and me crackles in the air like static before a storm. His words weigh on me, sharp and pointed, cutting through the defenses I’ve worked so hard to build. I’m walking a razor’s edge now, and there’s no turning back. I know he’s not just testing me anymore—he’s pulling me in. And as much as I hate to admit it, there’s a part of me that wants to let him.

Human. Now I wake up wet from dreams I didn’t have. Bite marks on my neck. Moans caught in my throat. Static in my ears. I flinch at mirrors. I glow when the moon’s full. And every time one of them looks at me — really looks at me — I feel the thorns growing again. They don’t touch me gently. They don’t ask for permission. They take. They bite. They bury themselves in the cracks I didn’t know I left open.

Too sharp. It reminded me of the searing pain when Darien forced that blood bond and stitched it into me. But now…it felt stranger. It was as if something inside me was pulling tight, sewing itself together. “Ah…fuck…” I hissed, clutching my back as another sharp sting shot through me. I turned my head slowly, realizing with a jolt that he was still here with me.
