"Welcome to toy story." It greeted with a deep roar. Definitely normal. I moved on, I heard a creak behind me and when I turned around only its head was turned all the way through. The others had gone in, so I followed. It was still filled with pictures of "advanced toys" There were rooms in all corners, I looked at some and they were filled with tanks, others computers, most of them were just rooms.

Today, I had a special mission: to find the perfect balloons and toys for my dearest friend, Zara, who had recently announced her pregnancy. As I strolled down the aisles, my eyes widened with wonder at the vast array of toys that adorned the shelves. It was as if each shelf held a unique story, waiting to be discovered. The stuffed animals beckoned to me with their soft fur and adorable eyes, while the shelves of colorful building blocks promised endless possibilities.

It was an abandoned office building that had been slated for demolition. It was four stories tall, along with a basement. Dripping pipes, hungry rats, and silent darkness made for the perfect horror movie setting. The officers could only hope that what they found didn’t further that narrative. The thundering of their boots echoed throughout the building, bouncing off of the walls. There were only about fifteen of them, but they sounded like a force of hundreds.

I leaned forward, resting my elbows on my knees. “Get a grip,” I muttered to myself. I stood up, intending to grab my keys and head out. Maybe I’d go to the clinic. Or at least pretend I was going to, then end up somewhere else entirely. That was when I noticed the toys. They were scattered on the floor near the hallway. Small plastic things. Bright colors. A tiny car with one wheel missing. A stuffed animal that looked like it had been through war. I froze. I stared at them for a long moment, like they might explain themselves if I gave them enough time.
