Together.” The Final Assault The fusion creature smashed through the chamber entrance like a nightmare given form. It was a towering abomination — a grotesque amalgamation of hundreds of infected. Faces of their lost loved ones pressed against its skin: Elara, Viktor, Tyler, Marcus, Mia, Professor Alden, and dozens more. It moved with unnatural intelligence, screaming in a chorus of stolen voices. “You cannot have them!” it roared. “They belong to the Rage!”

"I forgive you your harsh words, Pietro. The boys have been too severe with you and you are obviously in a lot of pain. I can alleviate your discomfort if you answer just a few questions for me. The most important one being how I can gain access to the abominations?" Abominations? For a moment Pietro couldn't work out what she meant and then he realised she was referring to the children. He fought to keep his expression neutral as a wave of horror washed through him. If she viewed the hybrids as monsters then the perceived threat to them was worse than any of them had imagined.

I think, two days before my grandfather came to take me away. My cousin, Dimitri, shouted it at me when I bested him in a fight. "My mom said you're an abomination! Your father is a rabid dog and your mother, a shameless whore who spreads her legs for dogs." When I asked my mom about it, she just smiled and told me not to worry, she would handle it.

Somewhere in the city—several stories above, in a steel and glass building—Julian Blackwood lay in his dark, sleek bedroom, staring at the book she had given him. He'd never intended to keep it. When Lena Carter had offered it to him—those gentle words, that thoughtful crease between her eyebrows—he'd intended to refuse. But something in her eyes had taken away his intention.
