He had the calm demeanor of a man who believed he was always the smartest person in the room.
"You gave her my address, Garrison," Avery said, her voice dropping into a dangerous, vibrating whisper that cut right through the jukebox music. "You let a ghost from my past bypass building security, ride up to my floor, and ambush me at seven o'clock in the morning. Do you have any idea what you put me through?"
Garrison stopped spinning the coaster. He leaned back against the vinyl booth, adjusted his collar, and then, completely unbothered—he laughed.
