She says as she hands me the book that has clearly been read a lot of times. Sitting down I take the book from her, our hands briefly touch again the strange but pleasant feeling is there. “Thank you, I’ll definitely give it a read” She just nods and goes back to watching the swans. “Astrid” She turns to look at me “Ye!” Her big golden eyes turn looking at me directly, and for the first time I notice that her eyes look as though they are swirls of golden lava moving.

Alchest scampers by shifting down the endless rows of books neatly stacked in piles down the wide oak table.

The corridors glowed faintly under the moonlight, and the only sound was the faint creak of floorboards and the distant hum of night creatures. Astra moved like a shadow through it all barefoot, with her silk robe brushing the floor as she slipped toward Darius’s study. Her fingers twisted nervously around the door handle. “He won’t notice,” she whispered to herself. “He never does.” The door creaked open, and inside, Darius’s desk sat under a thin line of moonlight. Papers, a map, and a half glass of wine. The amulet silver and bone sat on one side of the desk, exactly where he’d left it.

The journal sat on the table like a living thing, its worn leather cover emanating an aura of mystery that filled the room. The pack’s meeting hall was quiet now, save for the crackling of the fireplace and the occasional rustle of papers as Astra flipped through pages of notes she had scrawled. Isla leaned forward, her elbows on the table, staring at the book as though it might suddenly offer its secrets. “We’ve been turning pages for hours, and we’re no closer to answers.”

- I told him. He nodded and pulled several books out from one of the stacks and set them in front of me. I opened the top book and ran my fingers over the runes in the title. It was beautifully written as if each word was drawn with love and attention to detail. Now that I looked at it, it reminded me of a combination of Norse and Old English. Nerrian pulled his chair closer and pointed to the first word, speaking it in my mind than out loud in Draygonian. With his help, I repeated the word over and over again until I perfected it.

“I know it is here; where are you?” Astra stood in her library searching for a particular book. She searched the shelves till she saw it. “There you are.” “I found it!” Astra called as she read the pages. “Ok, so there is a problem.” Astra wasn’t sure how to explain this to a newbie. “Alister’s mausoleum has a blood seal on it.” “Meaning…” “Only a relative of the caster can open the seal,” Astra said as she snapped the book shut and placed it back on the shelf.
