Prologue
Everything in life must come to an end. That is the way and how it must be. For example, war, a war that has raged for centuries, will eventually end. Both sides may not want a solution, but it is like everything in the universe. Among the magical world of monsters, a baby is born who will change the fate of the war amongst vampires and werewolves. Over the centuries, the clans morphed into mafias with strong ties to tradition. One tradition is no crossing of the species of wolf and fang.
Chapter one: Runaways
“Mom, please talk to me about this?!” Angelica begged her mother. Angelica followed her mother up the stairs as she walked away.
“The answer is no.” Her mother answered, putting her foot down. “You are not ready, and my answer is final.” Her mother's pale blue eyes pierced into Angelica's green eyes as if to say drop it.
“I’m eighteen, mom. I cannot stay locked away. My only friend is Astra, and she is practically my sister.” Angellica fumed. “I can’t even have a boyfriend. Your rules are insane!”
“Angelica, please, I had a hard day today. Look, you can go to college online and stay home. Maybe next year, you can go live on campus.”
“Mom, I want the real college experience. I’m sick of being stuck behind a screen.” Angelica stated in frustration.
“Angie, mom is stressed enough. Can’t you just let it go for now? Let’s go watch tv or something.” Astra said as she came into the room.
A sudden calm came over Angelica with Astra’s words. Astra could always calm her down no matter how furious she was. Astra came to live with them when she was five after her mother died. They have been friends ever since.
“Why do you want to leave so badly?” Astra asked before plopping onto the couch.
“I want freedom, and mom is constantly breathing down my neck. I can’t do anything without her freaking out.” Angelica planted herself down next to Astra. “We can’t even have social media accounts or a cellphone!”
“She is just protective. In a year, you can spread your wings and fly away.” Astra spread her arms out like a bird as her black hair flared out as she flapped her arms.
“Astra, I was accepted to Stanford, a full ride. I can’t pass this up.” Tears filled her eyes as she felt her dreams slip away.
“Angie, why don’t you tell her that? She would understand.” Astra tried to comfort her, but nothing would help her feel less trapped.
“She would tell me to do online classes. I want to live on campus, go to parties and have a life outside this house.” Angelica wiped the tears from her face. “I don’t care what we watch, but can we just play something?”
Astra played a random movie while Angelica watched without paying attention. Before she knew it, she was asleep.

The ground was cold against her feet as she ran through the wood, the moon full above the only source of light. Her chest hurt as her heart raced and her lung burned. They were close. She could feel it as they hunted her down. All she could feel was fear as her feet became numb from the cold. Tears streamed down her face as she pushed harder to escape.
“Angelica!? Can you hear me!?” A muffled voice called to her from a distance. She ran towards the voice to a clearing with a marble mausoleum. The doors open, and she runs inside to get away from her pursuers. In the middle of the mausoleum was a marble coffin with silver chains holding the lid down. As she lay her hand on the cold marble, the chains vanished as the lid opened. Inside lay, a man with dark hair and pale skin shined in the moonlight. He looked so familiar, like a face from a lost memory. She leaned over the touch his face, only for his hand to grab hers. His eyes opened, and their green eyes met.
“Angelica, free me." He spoke, revealing shape fangs.
She tried to pull away as he repeated the same thing repeatedly. She began to scream for him to release her when hands grabbed her from behind.
*******
Angelica shot up from her spot on the couch with a scream. Astra was shaking her awake and looked concerned.
“You okay?” Astra asked with worry in her voice.
“Yeah, just a nightmare. No more horror movies.” She said, rubbing her head.
“I was playing a rom-com, but whatever dinners ready.”
The sun began to set as the girls, and their mother ate dinner in tense silence. Astra kicked Angelica under the table to get her attention. Angelia muttered an ouch and glared at her sister. Astra mouthed the words, “Tell her, or I will.” Angelica shocked her and replied, “You better not.” and glared. Astra took a breath and did what Angelica considered a betrayal.
“Angelica was accepted to Stanford for a full ride,” Astra stated as their mother choked on rice.
“Astra, I told you to shut up!” Angelica slammed her hands on the table.
“You applied to colleges without telling me?” Her mother said with fear in her eyes.
“Yeah, so I am eighteen. I don’t need my parents’ signature to apply.” Angelica was confused; she thought her mother would be angry.
“Did you use our address?” Her mother questioned.
“Well yeah, you have to put an address. It's not a big deal; it's not like we are hiding from the mob.” Angelica was beyond confused.
“We leave in the morning pack what you can fit in the car.” Their mother stated firmly as she quickly finished her food.
“What are you talking about? All I did was apply to college.” Angelica was confused and shocked by this outcome.
“You have no idea what you have done; I am trying to protect you, Angelica!” Her mother was not making any sense. “Go pack now!”
Angelia did as she was told and packed her suitcases for what felt like the thousandth time. Her phone buzzed in her pocket, and her heart began to race.
Jack: Hey, gorgeous.
Angelica: Bad news, mom, is making us move out of nowhere again.
Jack: What, why?
Angelica: Cuz I used our address to apply for college.
Jack: Is your mom on the run or what?
Angelica: I swear she acts like it.
Jack: Crazy idea?
Angelica: I can do crazy…
Jack: Why don’t we run away?
Angelica: Midnight, I’ll be waiting down the street at the bus stop.
Jack: See you then, beautiful.
There was no way she was leaving Jack behind. They met at the local bookstore, the one place her mother let her go. The day they met, he bought her coffee, and they talked till she had to go home. He was charming and funny. He was her boyfriend, and she refused to abandon him. Her mother may have no problem leaving the people in their life, but she refused to. At 11:55, she tiptoed past her mother’s door.
“Shayla, you need to tell her.” A voice spoke. It was a somewhat familiar voice.
“She isn’t ready. What if she hates me?” Her mother said through tears. “She’s not ready to know the truth…I can’t.”
“You can’t keep her locked up.” The voice spoke with sympathy. “You need to tell her who she is.”
‘What the hell? Did she kidnap me or something?’ Angelica asked herself as she walked down the stairs and out the door. With her suitcase and backpack, she ran to the bus stop. Jack was already waiting for her in his beat-up green Pontiac. He was sitting on the hood staring at the sky. His blond hair shined in the moonlight as
“Hey, I’m here,” Angelica called to him as she ran to him.
“Hey, gorgeous.” He smiled as she hugged him. He took her suitcase from her as he kissed her. “You ready to go?”
“You have no idea.” Angelica sighed as she jumped into the passenger seat.

“Angelica?” Shayla knocked on her daughter’s door. “Honey, we need to talk.” She said as she opened the door. “Angelica?” She looked around the empty room only to find a note on her desk.
Dear, mom
I’m sorry, but I can’t do this anymore. You act like the world is after us, but it’s not. I am going to Stanford with Jack. I wish it didn’t have to be like this, but you won’t listen. I'll write as soon as I can. I am sorry. I wish you could have seen me off and helped to decorate my dorm.
“Astra, she’s gone!” Shayla screamed as she ran downstairs.
“What are you talking about?” Astra asked, confused.
“She ran off with someone named Jack.”
“Give me that.” Astra took the letter and balled it up and rolled it in her hand. Sparks began to fly as she pulled her hands apart. “Shit!”
TO BE CONTINUED
“How in the world are you going to just target those who won’t stand against us?” Devon asked after Angelica shared her plan with everyone else. “That just it; we send the message to everyone. Only those who don’t wish us harm can cross the barrier.” Angelica said as she picked at her breakfast. “There have to be others who are sick of hiding and tired of the bloodshed.” “The vampiric council has murdered so many there has to be others who are angry.” Devon stared at his hands thinking of Clair and the child he never held. The pain from the wound was still fresh after twenty years. “They will come.” “So how do I broadcast the message to everyone?” Angelica asked as she popped bacon into her mouth. “I don’t want to send it out to humans and out the fact that vampires and werewolves exist.” “They would have a heart attack if they discovered the truth that their trashy paperbacks are real.” Astra said as she chewed her own bacon. “I completely understand why you don’t like the series
“Can I speak to my daughter alone?” Shayla asked as she shoved her pockets. “Sure, I need to get some sleep anyway.” Astra said as she left the room. Shayla and angelica sat in the armchairs by the fireplace. They sat in silence for a moment before Angelica broke the silence. “I am so sorry for running away.” She said praying her mom wouldn’t be angry. “I had no idea Jack was an assassin.” “How could you have known I was so hell-bent on keeping all this from you.” Shayla said as she easied Angelica's worries. “I should have told you sooner. Astra was right, keeping you in the dark was unnecessary. If I had told you why I was so overprotective all this would have been avoided and we may have found your father sooner. I never listened to your needs and what you wanted. That was wrong of me; I should have listened to you both.” “I had the same dream for years. They started when I was fourteen. I thought everyone had those dreams. I
They held each other for a long time. It had been nearly two decades since they were together. Shayla assumed her love was dead but here he stood with their daughter. She broke their embrace to look her daughter over. “Are you okay?” Shalya asked as she held her arm's length away. “Nothing broken or missing?” “Mom I am fine it's you I am worried about.” Angelica said as she looked at the gash on her shoulder. It was slowly healing. “I will heal in no time but you; I have been worried about.” Shayla said as she cupped her daughter's face. “How did you escape?” Astrid asked as she handed her a glass of water. “Stephan is now the big boss. I played on his emotions and knocked the guard out who was taking me to him. Dumb ass.” Shayla said before emptying the glass. “You think he would get the hint that I will never want him.” “Well, he wormed his way up into the chain of command. He is such a tool.” Deon said as he ran his h
Stephan at in his office looking over papers he needed to sign, looking at the door every so often. After an hour had passed, he became frustrated and buzzed for his assistant to come in. She was a slim blonde with lags that could kill a man if she wished. Her lips and eyes screamed for him to kiss her, but her voice spoke the words ‘yes sir’ instead. “Did I not call for Shayla to be brought to me an hour ago?” Stephan asked, frustrated. “Yes, sir, I called the guard, and he said he was on his way.” She spoke, looking into his eyes. “Well, where is she?” I will call the guard and see what the hold-up is.” She said before going back to her desk. A moment later, she came back with his answer. “the guard on duty said his partner left with her an hour ago. I tried to contact his partner, but he did not answer.” “What?! We have a security breach. Find her! Call at the guards and have them search the compound.” Stephan ordered as he realized
ShaylaThe day passed, trapped in the room; she was sealed in by magic she could not break. She tried everything she could think of to break the seal; nothing worked. Her stomach began to make noises as she became aware of her hunger. The door's lock clicked before the door opened; a maid pushed a cart into the room."The Master has sent you some super, miss." She said as she removed the lid to the tray. "Beef stew with potatoes, and I have some soda." Before Shayla could say anything, the maid walked out of the room. The food called to her hungry stomach; she lost the battle of wills and ate the food. It didn't taste weird, so no poison or potions. She stared at the door, thinking of a way to get the door open without burning her hand. The shifter silver would burn her hand through any fabric she used. Her magic would not work; the seal on the room would prevent her from using her magic. The door would need to be opened from the other side. But how was she supp
*DAYS BEFORE*“Astra, she’s gone!” Shayla screamed as she ran downstairs.“What are you talking about?” Astra asked, confused.“She ran off with someone named Jack.”“Give me that.” Astra took the letter and balled it up and rolled it in her hand. Sparks began to fly as she pulled her hands apart. “Shit!”Shayla and Astra read the letter in shock. “I told you to tell her!” Astra said as she threw her hands in the air as if to say, ‘I told you so.’Shayla started to cry from frustration. “I didn’t think she was not ready to know. Her world would change, and she would never forgive me.”“Her world is already changing; she is not a baby anymore, Shy.” Astra said as she threw on her bag. “Now I have to go after her before he hurts her. Stay safe till I get back.”“Just make sure she is safe.&rdqu
Astra needed to move fast and quickly for her mission to succeed. She opened a time-lapse portal to the blood bank and moved quickly. “I can do this….” Astra said to herself as she ran through the portal. She emerged in the storeroom. Blood was hanging in the chilled room behind glass cabinets. She looked up to check for any cameras filming her and found none. “Who leaves blood with no surveillance?”“Well, that isn’t a problem when you have magic.” She said to no one in particular, seeing as she was alone. She planed her index finger on the hole to unlock it with a zap. The cabinet doors released as she lifted her finger from the keyhole. She took blood bags from each section to make it look like none were missing. “Okay, that should be enough for a week or two.” She said as she counted the twenty blood bags as she put them in her backpack. Once the cabinet was locked, she made her leave through the portal.
Angelica The wolf stared at me with knowing eyes as I sat there frozen. When I moved, she moved, and I realized she was me and wouldn’t hurt me. “Devon said I should name you, but I think you already have one. What is your name?” I asked her as I tilted my head. ‘You may call Regin.” She spoke telepathically. I was brought back when I was six years old with a stuffed dog I called Regin. “I named you years ago; I just didn’t know it at the time.” I laughed as I remembered how I dragged that thing everywhere. I was heartbroken when mom left it behind in her panicked dashes to a new home. I understand her rush now, but I was so mad when she left it. It seems so silly now. I miss my mom. ‘I have always been with you.’ Regin said as she blinked. “Why do you come out when I sleep?” I asked, needing to be answered. ‘I was trapped for nearly two decades. I need to run free.’ Regin said as she laid down. ‘When you sleep, the barrier falls, and I can run free.’ “What if we have schedule
Aleister looked to Angelica with love and relief in his eyes. “Thank the Gods you are alive.” He almost sounded like he was about to cry. “Where is your mother?” He looked around at the faces surrounding him.“Her family has her, unfortunately; But we are going to get her back.” Astra answered his question.“Is she okay?” He asked panicked. “If they hurt her, I will tear them apart.”“She is fine; last I checked, they want her alive till they get Angelica.” Astra answered, trying to calm him down.“Why wait to rescue her?” Aleister questioned as he climbed out of the Coffin.“One Angelica is not ready to fight; she is our best chance to survive a horde of werewolves. Two, we had to save you first. You have been in here for too long as it is.” Astra said as she counted on her fingers the reasons Shayla was still in the clutches of her family
