"Aether energy is naturally in opposition with nether energy, but the aether in us Twelve Scions are somehow different. Our aether clashes with silverstream as well. They could effectively hurt us just as much as we could effectively hurt them. Lars remembered something from his early Chimera hunting days and said, "Oh, right. I remember you told me that our Scion Force even could purify the silverstream as long we're in Mirepa's vicinity."

I still had yet to remove the relic from my grasp. But I only remembered I was supposed to hand it over when a warm palm suddenly cupped my face. Gentle, calloused, and warm. I leaned into the touch with fluttering eyes when I met the Alpha's imploring gaze. Where the blue light mixed with his original amber shade, it highlighted green. Somehow, it only made him more alluring.

He flinched, and stuttered, before going silent. "He touched my mate." At my words, everywhere turned silent. Pindrop standard. And then, they all began laughing. "You must take us for fools, Alpha Kaden." Antonio spat. He was the only one that didn't look amused. "He's right." Amber stood up. "It isn't your turn to speak, sit down." Antonio ordered. "No, I don't want to." Boldly, she walked over to where I was standing, and took my hand. "We are true mates, bonded by the Moon goddess. And I believe that's enough reason to debunk the rumors that I had thrown myself at Master Ethan." Her tone was confident. A confidence I hadn't seen before.

he said with fear in his voice, and Amber's eyes dimmed at the mention of Cynthia's name. "Meadow is nothing like that bitch," Amber said, and Ethan nodded. "I know, but false hope can break people. It broke me," he confessed, and they were silent. After an awkward silence, Amber decided to break it by speaking up. "I have to hand over to Meadow," she said, and Ethan growled at her. It was Echo, but he did not know it. Amber knew it but kept silent. "I can't hand over to Ashley. She is evil," Amber responded, and Ethan looked at her with surprise.

I’m up on my feet and scrambling for the key but it’s not hung here. I reach in again and stretch as far as I can. She’s rolling around. And somehow in this rolling I make contact with her ankle. I hold it. The tingles that rush through me settle Xavier, and after a second we watch as Amber relaxes. First her rolling stops, then her brow relaxes, and at last her mouth stops saying things I can’t understand. Her breathing returns to normal, and right as I am about to let go, she opens her eyes. “Mate, is that you?” she says in a raw voice, barely audible.
