AFTER DARK

AFTER DARK

Then she would not have felt like she needed to do these things herself. I took myself to the bed lying beside her. The tiredness settled in and I let myself fall asleep. I woke up when I heard Maeve's soft groans and whimpers. I sat upright shaking her softly trying to wake her from her nightmare. She began to trash letting out a scream before jerking awake. She registers her surroundings before throwing herself in my arms I instantly wrap my arms around her. Each time she hugged me, this strange but comforting feeling settled in me. Since I got back from Tartarus, Maeve is the only one that has ever touched me. While every other person stared at me with a hint of fear in their eyes, it was

she’d collected, and James and I stood in the kitchen with our arms around each other and didn’t say anything for a long time because sometimes peace doesn’t need words, it just needs presence, and we had that, we had so much of that it overflowed. Later that night I opened my sketchbook and wrote three words at the top of a new page, not “Freedom” this time, not “Home,” just “After After,” because that’s where we are now, after the survival, after the healing, after the fear, living in the part of the story where the good things happen and keep happening and you stop waiting for them to end.

The Day She Stopped Waiting

The Day She Stopped Waiting

The Silence After Victory Nobody cheered. Not at first. Nobody moved. Nobody even breathed. The battlefield remained frozen beneath the golden sky. Because after everything— after years of fear— after countless battles— after impossible sacrifices— the horror was gone. Actually gone. Not sealed. Not sleeping. Not imprisoned. Gone. Forever. Honestly? Nobody knew how to react. Fair. Very fair. Reasonable actually. Above them— millions of tiny lights continued rising into the heavens. Slowly.

10 chapters in and I hope it’s second chance book. I love a good “leaving my shitty husband for a better man” plot but sometimes I love a good “I need to get my wife back” plot as well. Sometimes I want to read about how a relationship was pulled back from the brink and I feel this is goi to be it.

After the Last Autumn

After the Last Autumn

"Hop in, Mr. Crowe! If we leave now, you'll still make it to the airport in time." Very soon, I left the base behind in their car. As I looked at the place where I had spent the last five years, I realized there was not even the slightest trace of attachment left in my heart anymore. The wind outside the window still blew relentlessly across the desert. But somehow, against my face, it no longer felt so cold. Leaning back against the seat, I watched the lights of the base grow farther and farther away in the rearview mirror. The corners of my lips slowly curled upward. 'June, for the rest of our lives, let's never see each other again.'

A Home After All

A Home After All

The petals trembled gently, like a wave goodbye. Mom stared at the flowers. Tears fell again. But she smiled. "Lily," she whispered. "Is that you?" No one answered. The wind passed through, and the petals swayed once more. Then everything grew still. I looked down and saw my body beginning to fade, bit by bit, like mist evaporating in sunlight. I was finally leaving. I looked at them one last time. At the moment I disappeared completely, I heard Noah speak. "Mom, was Lily just here?"

The Afterglow of Us

The Afterglow of Us

During those grueling days, I drifted in and out of feverish dreams, my mind melting into a haze. Memories from two lifetimes tangled together until I could no longer tell what was real and what was a nightmare. When the shadow of death loomed tangibly overhead, all the so-called love, hatred, and grudges seemed laughable and trivial. The day I recovered, I stepped out of the hospital and took a deep breath of Malva's cool air. The sharp scent of disinfectant finally faded from my lungs, replaced by the fresh fragrance of rain-soaked grass. In that moment, I felt the boulder on my chest lift and scatter into the wind.

Shadows of Desire

I admitted, my voice muffled against his shoulder, a little raw from the intensity of the experience. “That’s normal,” he murmured, his breath warm against my hair. “It’s called subspace or endorphin drop. Aftercare is how we make sure you land safely. We don’t just send you out into the night on a high. We stay with you until you’re steady.” His words were a balm, validating my experience and reinforcing the profound care that underpinned everything at Elysium.

The Rejected Curvy Luna Queen

The Rejected Curvy Luna Queen

I claw at the fetus, static tearing my hands to bone. The Bloom screams, timelines fracturing. ***YOU WIN***, it weeps. ***BUT YOU'LL DIE WITH ME.*** The mausoleum collapses. --- **The Aftermath** We wake in the field, the lattice gone. The sky is whole, the air sweet with mundane rain. Ravel's crossbow is ash. Lira is gone. The survivors are silent, hollow. But Talin kneels where the lattice stood, cupping a sprout in his palms-ordinary, fragile.

Then another wave hit - this one swallowing her completely. Darkness crept in. The world became muted—just the distant roar of water and howling wind. The last thing she saw was Damian's form fading from view.
