Two weeks passed like a blur, anxiety crippled Pamala. There were no other letters or threat. Whoever it was must have been bluffing, it was a silly trick. She didn't dwell too much on it. She was anxious about stepping outside, now the news of her Rejection had spread like wildfire she didn't want to people people throwing her looks of mockery or pity anywhere she went to, so she didn't go out at all. But it would be good to find a job and support her parents now that her hope for a mate was crushed. It was hard living, she felt like a shell. It hadn't gotten better but she was learning to cope with the pain.

I made a drink to soothe my heartache and body ache from illness. Then, a notification chimed, and I opened it to see a rejection email from the producers. The reason for the rejection was not about my performance but the rumours that had spread around. I wanted to smash my phone in anger, but I controlled myself. Instead, I accidentally shattered a glass, and a piece pierced my skin.

It wasn’t that I wasn’t in pain, but this pain would be multiplied by ten the moment I accepted the rejection. "I knew it. I knew you wouldn’t risk our pup’s life," He yelled from behind. I halted in my tracks and turned around, holding the tears in my eyes. I stared at his handsome face because I was sure I wouldn’t see him again. "Don’t take back the rejection. I will accept the rejection after reaching Grandpa’s house," I said before walking out of his office for the last time. The tear that I was holding rolled out of my eyes. I quickly wiped it off and maintained a small smile on my lips.

The moment the words were out of my lips, I felt it. It was like my heart had been split into two. I clutched my chest, staggering backwards like I'd been hit by an invisible force. No one really talks about the pain that comes after a Rejection. It was… like a part of me was missing—gone, forever. I fell to my knees before him, as the pain only intensified. “What… have you done?” I gasped. “Exactly what I should have done the moment I met you.”

Tears streamed down my face as I awaited the next few seconds for the excruciating pain to recede. So it was true. Rejection felt like shit.

He was also feeling the pain of the rejection. “It will continue to get worse until you accept the rejection,” he grunted through his own pain. I didn’t know if this was true or not, but I didn’t know how much more of this I could take. It’s so rare for someone to actually reject their mate that there weren’t many details on what happened, or what it was like. The pain increased again, and Atticus and I were both physically bending under the pain and the weight of the rejection. “Accept it,” he growled.

Out of sight, out of mind. My phone buzzes against the table. I barely glance at it at first. Unknown number. “Spam,” I mutter, unlocking it. The message loads. " It’s okay to reject me.You don’t have to go through this at all. " I freeze. “Kane,” I say under my breath. A whole month of nothing and this is what he sends? Just— Permission. My grip tightens around the phone. “It’s okay to reject me.” I let out a short, sharp laugh.

Without waiting for him to talk, I dragged him inside his opened apartment. "I never wanted someone like you as my mate. I hate you and I can't bear to be with you. So I am rejecting this bond." I screamed at his face. Without waiting for him to say anything, I uttered those words I knew might cause me pain later on. "I, Donna Anderson, reject you, Miko Magnus as my mate!" I waited for one, two and several seconds, yet he did not say anything. He just looked at me sadly. "You are supposed to reject me too!" I urged him.
