The Shadow Beside The Moon
Elara, a passionate art student from Davao City, spends three happy years with her boyfriend Kael, believing his promises that she is his one and only love. She only hears once about Seraphine his childhood friend who moved abroad years ago dismissed by Kael as nothing more than a distant memory.
Everything changes when Seraphine returns home. Kael slowly pulls away, grows cold, and constantly compares Elara unfavorably to Seraphine: criticizing her personality, her interests, and her identity, until Elara tries to change herself completely just to win back his affection. On their third anniversary, Kael leaves Elara waiting alone for hours at a dinner reservation, choosing instead to rush to Seraphine’s side when she claims to be unwell.
Days later, Kael breaks up with Elara and admits the devastating truth: Seraphine has always been his “white moonlight” the only woman he has ever truly loved. Elara was never his equal partner; she was only a temporary comfort, a placeholder he stayed with to ease his loneliness while waiting for his true love to come back. Worse, Elara later learns Seraphine knew about their relationship all along, and even encouraged it, using Elara as a reliable caretaker for Kael until she could return and claim him for herself.
