Akira’s POV As soon as Kaïden’s hand wrapped around mine, I prepared for that familiar, terrible sensation of my flesh burning away. But then something completely unexpected happened. The flames roared to life, wild and hungry, but instead of consuming him, they seem to curve inward, as if his touch was the very thing they had been waiting for. His palm was warm against mine, but not burning. Our eyes met—his blue ones steady and fearless. "You see?" he murmured, his voice low yet cutting through the chaos. "You don’t destroy me, Akira. You never could."

"I, I k-know," Akira almost gasp her breath because of Hunter's tight hug. "A-Are you going to kill me?" She complained and started to push the man away.
