As the gauze was removed, the horrific burn scar on Ava's wrist appeared before Alessia's eyes. The burn was at least second-degree, and even Alessia, as a surgeon accustomed to seeing wounds, furrowed her brows. It was definitely not Evelyn who did this to Ava while she was lying on the hospital bed. Then who could it be? Could it be that Ava hurt herself in order to play the victim? This thought just flashed through Alessia's mind, and she felt it was not impossible, after all, Ava was very scheming. She didn't want to get involved in these matters. She came here for Jessie.

She inhaled a lot of smoke, too," I finally let it out. My words made Patrick walk faster towards the intensive care unit. It was where I had spent the last couple of days. I had been going back and forth between Patrick and Giselle. It was torture for me, especially the thought of losing them together. Kyle wrapped her up into his arms unable to keep himself away from Alessa any longer. She grabbed his shirt and cried into it. “I killed them. I killed them. They were never going to stop otherwise. I am sorry. They are going to take me away for killing them now. You found me but—“

They screamed as they danced, crying for absolution. “This is the fire of every follower who died in vain,” Catherine said. “Every soul you ‘inspired’ who found only suffering.” The flames turned toward Isabella. Arthur tried to shield her, but the fire passed through him. It wrapped around Isabella, searing into her skin not with heat, but with despair. Visions came—of people praying at altars that crumbled, of children orphaned by rebellion, of mothers whispering her name as they were burned for harboring her followers.
