Most of them, if not all, had a dark version of the truth. Like the infamous rumor about Cinderella. She never met an old fairy godmother. She was a crazy traumatized teenager and all that happened was in her head. There were no glass shoes, there was no beautiful dress that she wore to the kingdom. She never met the prince, never. The princes didn't search for a young lady who wore the finest gown and the glass slippers. The prince married one of her cruel stepsisters. All in her crazy head. Fantasy is suffering in disguise. It makes us want to dream of things that we know, will not happen in real life.

I was able to merge into the background, smiling, and being happy for my cousin as she married the man of her dreams. I was throwing those shoes away as soon as I had the chance. High heels were going to be my downfall. No wonder Cinderella left her shoe on the palace steps when she ran away. The darn things were impossible to walk in.

I saw how Alicia and the rest of the she-wolves bowed their heads in respect, indicating the role she played in Asteria. “Tell me I wasn't dreaming,” the old woman exclaimed. Her voice was like a lullaby in my ears. I hadn't met her, but somehow, I could feel an unexplained connection with her. “You aren't, my majesty,” Alicia exclaimed. “The moon goddess has brought the missing princess home after so many years.” I was rooted in my spot, unblinking, trying to process what I just heard. My mouth fell open, with my lips parted in silent surprise. I could no longer process what I had been hearing. What the hell was happening.

My stepmom kept trying to convince me, making a gentle voice like she was talking to a cat on a tree. I immediately turned around and took off into the woods, limping and struggling to gain speed. Lucas chased after me. As I raced through the woods like a main character from a gruesome horror movie, it began to dawn on me that my stepmother would have handed me to the cop regardless of whether or not I signed the papers. My eyes immediately got watery. I was once my father's princess. From out of nowhere, Lucas dived me to the ground. Without hesitation, he raised me up by my waist, pushing my shoulders against a tree, then he started struggling to raise my gown up.

I was nothing more than a figure in a script they’d written without me. Finally, Mrs. Loresca closed her binder, giving me a smile that was meant to be warm but felt condescending. “You’re a lucky young woman, Irina,” she said, as though I needed reminding. “Not every girl gets a fairytale wedding like this.” I forced a polite smile. “Thank you, Mrs. Loresca. I’m… grateful.” Her smile widened, clearly satisfied with my response. “Well, then, I believe we’re all set.” She turned to Viktor and my mother. “I’ll have the final arrangements sent over this afternoon. Everything will be perfect.”

It is not as you know or you might imagine this story. You know the Cinderella stories; the princess is in a sad and bad situation. She can’t fight evil all by herself. She needs a savior, support, a prince, a mate, someone that can save her, can help her. In the end, a prince or a knight shows up and saves the girl, fights the evil, and lives happily ever after or something like that. Or the one who grows her golden hair outside the window and a man comes and saves her from the tower, they destroy the evil witch and are happy together.

Disney lied or as the song said, they tricked me. If I could go back in time I'd probably tell younger me to stop wasting time watching the variations of Cinderella or Snow White. I'd still watch Merida, maybe even Frozen but the ones that ended with the princess and the prince living happily ever after needed to be thrown in the trash.

No way! “Do you not know Cinderella?” They shook their head as I continued to ask without stopping “Rapunzel? Moana? Aurora? Elsa? Mulan? Ariel? Belle—” “Wait! Wait! Who are these people? It’s unexpected that you know a lot of people we don’t.” That’s when I squealed excitedly. “Oh my gosh! Evander! I already know what to do!” He looked at me in surprise as I took both of his hands. I twirled joyfully around the room and jumped excitedly while laughing loudly. Yes! I have a plan now!

Luna replied. "You'll only worsen your image." "Argh, fine," Luna said irritably. She then straightened up and forced a smile. "So, have you ever heard of fairy tales?" Luna asked, and her smile seemed to work. "I know one fairy tale, Cinderella," a little girl raised her hand enthusiastically. Luna looked at her and also noticed her tiny leg in a cast. "Smart girl. Can you tell us about it?" Luna asked. The little girl nodded eagerly. "Cinderella is a poor girl who was helped by a fairy godmother to meet a handsome prince," she said in a soft and cute voice.
